Replacing Max Air
After about 8 years of service, the Max Air vent cover over my Fan Tastic Vent had the top missing. I looked up there this past week and only saw a jagged edge. Only a few shattered pieces of the top cover were still in the Max Air cover. Replacement is easy. The real question that I have no answer for is how it happened since the Max Air is in line with the front AC (that is higher) and the rear AC that is a little lower--no damage on either AC covers. Yes--I am very careful around trees, power line, bridges, etc. But it happened.

hot sun, over time plastic deteriorates. When we were living in Arizona, replaced all my plastic vent lids covers with metal ones. That was the mid-80s, have not seem metal replacements in years.

Yes, in South Texas the plastic vents on the roof had to be replaced about 3 years ago. They don't look that good now--I will try another summer and replace them in the winter!

Replaced my Max Air's with Fantastic fan vents (they weren't available when I put the Max Air's on). The fantastics are held on with clips so they are easy to replace if need be.

Tim, Reminds me of a book I read about 30 years ago as I was starting my adjusting career. Gentleman driving down the road when he was approached by a low flying airplane. When he got home, he got out and noticed that his vinyl top was ripped. That is what he told the adjuster. LOL. Any exposure to low flying planes?? No, really, agree with the others. The sun is just brutal on anything plastic like these covers. Once cracked, a little wind will finish it off.

Had to replace the two vent covers on our Monty when I put solar on, even though they'd been covered with MaxAire 'hats'. Probably should also get around to doing all the other little vent caps as they were brittle as well. LOML has me renovating 'our' kitchen though, so that kind of stuff is on hold.

The replacement MaxAir was only $47-so really after 8+years and all that sun--I will take the easy replacement. Of course I will be on the roof about 6:30AM to escape the roof "oven" later in the day!
