Lost Alaskan in Alpine, TX

What to do in Alpine, TX? Listen to the train whistle--several times a day and night. See Remington's on loan to the Museum of the Big Bend. See Marfa and the Paesano Hotel--really an amazing place. Star parties at McDonald Observatory. Eat out--lots of good local stuff. Play golf. Wait for Big Bend NP to reopen! Oh did I mention the train whistles? The Lost Alaskan is also very nice!
Really, we like this part of Texas and will return when ever we can.

If you are into rock hounding, visit the Richardson Ranch a little south of town. Lots of collectible rock there. One of the best rib eye steaks I have ever had was at the Riata Restaurant in Alpine. http://www.reata.net/alpine-texas-restaurant.html

We were just at the Lost Alaskan first week in Sept. My wife was born in Alpine when her Dad was stationed at The old Marfa Air Base. Very interesting area as mentioned by others, including the McDonald Observatory. We are at the end of a 6 week trip from No. calif to Florida and back, and the Alpine area was one of our favorite areas.
