Landing Gear Mod

Lisa ends up doing most of the extending and retracting of the landing gear and the location of the switch makes it difficult for her to "see" what she is doing. We took out the original switch, pulled the wires back through to the front compartment and mounted the switch in a box from radio shack. Now Lisa has the switch available on a short tether which makes operation a lot easier for her (and me )

all told about $5 in material and 1 hour worth of work.

Now that is a good idea, and I like the fact that it's simple also. There are times you don't want the side compartment door blocking your view. Mike

My dealer installed a remote (key fob switch) for us. Works like the truck lock fob. Makes hooking up really easy, running/adjusting the gear up or down to the hitch from the cab! Love it.

I put a ZAxis remote switch on the old 2980 and it worked great. One can sit in the TV and operate the jacks up or down. A little higher cost $150.00. As a short person I have a problem seeing over the door to the hitch pin. Looks like I will have to get one for the Big Sky.

This is something that keystone should install in their units as standard equipment. I find it strange that everyone can come up with inovations, but the manufacturer still build the same -o same-o like they do not have a clue. Like I have posted before cookie cutter units.

Dennis,
The box was installed by Lakeshore RV as part of the upgrade to twin 6v batteries. I have modified their install as they originally installed it aligned fore to aft with the furthest battery completely hidden under the shelf the hydraulic pump sits on. No way I was ever going to be able to check water levels in that battery! If you look close you will also see that I relocated the short stop breakers from the back of the compartment wall to the front of the shelf above the batteries. The whole wiring in this area is now neater and less likely to snag on items.

Okay Illini Trekker, can you give us the details on where you got the box and a part number. Your mod also looks great.
Thanks

I think I may go back and add an additional length of cable as what is there is a little short.

Dick, I got my box at radio shack, 3"x5" connection box and it ran around $5.75

The box I used is made by Bell Outdoor #5320-6. The cover is also Bell Outdoor #5173-6. Now with the cover I needed to cut a hole that would let the controller fit into, I used a grinder with a wafer wheel. To add length got a 4 way wire and male disconnects (Napa #784386) and female (#784351). To tell the truth I wish I would have added two more feet of wire, but the six will work fine.

All parts local hardware and Napa.SeeYa
