fuel tank

Just got my 52 gal. fuel tank made by Titan tanks installed on my short bed 2500 HD. Everything connected with no added accessories. Now I can tow and go for a long time.

Just a naive question - does not the fuel weight plus the RV's pin weight exceed the 1500 pound rating of the rear axle? I'm always concerned about exceeding my rated limit.

At 7.1#/gal..... that makes it 369.2# added to the TV GVW.

Unless your rig is a 2WD and the extra 369# added on, you are most definately over on your pin with that tank full. I calculated my 2880RL with a Onan gen. and a 2500HD D/A 4x4 would be 200# over GVW.

I would love to see GM put a larger fuel tank in their trucks. Or if I had to choose, I would rather see GM increase the GVWR and the GCVWR. Remember that the fuel tank is in the middle of the truck, therefore some of that additional weight is going to go to the front axle as well. Not all of it is going to ride on the rear axle.

gitrdun,
Let me think here, using my 21 mpg (highway, empty)I have been averaging the past 3 months 52gals x 21mpg = 1,092 miles per tank. Enjoy that extended range between fill ups!!

Montana Sky, I have 86 gallons and it is nice because I only fill up once a month instead of every week.

Montana Sky...what GM needs to do is increase the cargo capacity...Ford has a 10000 GVWR 3/4, but can still only carry 100 more in cargo than a Chevy with a 9200 GVWR. So an increase in GVWR won't help unless there is a corresponding increase in cargo capacity.

gitrdun...true, you increased your GVW, made your truck heavier as noted earlier. However, you did not increase your GVWR, it's still what's on the driver's door. Bottom line is you can go farther, but reduced the amount of cargo you can carry.
