Less face it Dave, as men we are hung up on long things. Go long box or go home. LOL
On the serious side, I had a 2000 CC SB and an 04 CC SB . I like the long box CC so much better. Bigger tank, and the 05 coil spring front end makes this thing feel smaller around town than my older CC SBs. My truck does not feel big to me. It feels balanced. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and a CC SB looks dumpy and out of balance with that teeney weeney little box behind the big cab.

I went to the long bed so I can have tool box in back as well as room to store things like blocks and boards, king pin tri pod, etc. Also good thing about long bed is that you never have to worry about a slider hitch or whether you are going to hit the cab of the truck making sharp turns. Love the LB never go back to short bed that's just me.

One last argument for the long box. You'll be able to go to Texas without people pointing and laughing at your truck.

Teeny weeny and dumpy? Laughed out of Texas? Now I'm really offended!
I guess Texans probably really use thier trucks for trucks. Mine is just a placeholder for the hitch.

Never had a bad experience with that in Texas! My crewcab shortbed is longer than most of the trucks there! I have a toolbox across the bed in mine but it's flush with the bedrails. A cross-rail box would create a problem. I've used the slider 4 times in 11 years, twice with the Montana. There is always the spectre of turning too tightly without using the slider and creating a problem but I've not found it to be a problem. My personal opinion is to go with personal preference but if that means shortbed, then get the slider. Just in case you need it. It's like 4x4 in my opinion. You may never need it but if you do you'll be glad to have it. Again, I feel either box is fine, just go with what works best for you. If a longbed means the truck sits out in the weather instead of the garage, well, that's the reason we got the first shortbox.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

We went with the long bed CC for the larger fuel tank as well as not having to have a slider hitch and also to have room for a tool box. We had always had extended cabs up until now and we are really glad we went with the CC. There is lots of room in that back seat and very easy to get things in and out.
Happy trails...........................

Yep! I'm in Texas and I have a long bed extended cab--my choice. Many of the advantages of the crew cab as stated on posts above are beyond question. Still, for me, not enough to require that choice. The "given" is a long bed. I have been driving pickups for over 60 years (starting right here in this little 'city'), and I expect to be able to use mine for hauling around the place. And 9.5 inches longer would require a new garage and I already have a very good one. As one friend has said: "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", and for my eye the long bed crew cab is just too long.
Obviously this thread is understood by all to be for expression of opinions and respest for all other opinions. In that spirit and to add a little different take on the question.... I post.

I'm very proud of my SB truck I bought in Texas.
It's not that dumpy looking.
