Musty Smell

Hello, All

I live in southwest Florida and of course the roof air runs almost nonstop. But when it does shut down usually at night and starts up again there is a musty smell that comes from the vents. It only last a few minutes but its annoying. so my first thing was to shut down the back air, that's the one that the smell is coming from and only run the fan to dry it out, well the smell does go away but when I fire up the air again it comes right back. I just got done cleaning the coils and washing the unit out from up top a couple of weeks ago so I'm not sure if its the cold air coil or the air duct. can I spray Lysol in to the return vent when the fan is on, or do any of you have any other ideas.

Check and make sure the drain on the AC is fully open so condensation can drain fully from the unit to the roof.

There is a product that boaters use that kills molds, fungi, mildews, and other bacteria. Also neutralizes odors, etc. Kanberra Gel, Australian tea tree oil. Go to www.poliglowproducts.com. I have used it in the house air handler and it does work. John

I also live in sw florida outside port charlotte at riverside resort on kings highway and backing onto peace river. Had to be there for year and half due to father in laws health issues. There can be an extremely high mold/mildew in the air there just like the super high humidity percentages. Many times I could easily smell it in the air by our monte, get it in the rv some times as well quite easy. That is why you should get a small jar of kanberra gel and put it in one of the duct outlets to work at cleaning the ducts of active mold for that duct. Just having it in the monte will make a big difference. But remember, highmold count outside and outside air coming into monte from vents into the basement area equals that you can replenish it in the rv. You might try putting the jar behind those vents and give it time to see if that is your biggest source of mold smell and being moved by the ac ducts. John
