Battery ?

Has anyone got any suggestions on what type of 12v battery is the best? I have had 2 interststes go bad in one year and I have put a new iota charger in along with the smart charge plug in they offer.Does anyone offer a dual vented battery box so I can put 2- 6v batteries in.

Thanks ,Steve

I recently added an Optima blue top as a second battery and am extremely pleased with the results. We do not dry camp so I figured the golf cart batteries might have been too extreme for us.

I have had an Interstate RV/Marine Battery last 7 years I think you had a defective battery or another problem.I see no need to purchase other than a standard battery except if you are boon docking

Hi

Interstate has an excellent warranty. I have been using them for 10 years now and only had one go bad. The bad one had died in the first year and they replaced it NO CHARGE.

I don't boondock either, not since Q a few years ago. I installed a Wally World deep cycle marine battery for $79.00 about three years ago and finally had to replace it this year, my fault, I left the thing hooked up with batt switch on for three months in So. AZ heat. Not sure why some folks need extra batteries IF they don't boondock. I thought $79 bucks for a three year battery was good.....

If you are wanting a serious battery, consider Lifeline batteries. Expensive but well worth the money. Ours are eight years old and still going strong.

Hello , fello MOC'ers ..Batteries ,well last weekend our (either Generator/Converter or combination of both has boiled the 4 (interstate ) batteries!! We run four with a charge controller w/ a 70 watt solar panel, never a problem until last weekend. We mostly dry camp , with 2-3 trips per year, all batteries are secure and connected properly and i even stagger my positive and negative cables to draw evenly (2 inside batt/two outside batts)as there is slight volt/amp drop between connections. Dealer is still claiming it was out generator(honda eu3000) ,but this past week have had other generators (yamaha& another honda) and still there seems to be an excess amouint of draw from our operating system. Any help or insight would be appriciated.(2011 Re3665) But our batteries where fairly new , and i have always had/run interstate batts.

Assuming you are using the Honda to provide 120V power (and not the 12V battery charging capability which is too slow to be of real value), then the problem is in the charger. Either the solar charge controller or the OEM converter (if still used) is the device which determines the amount of electricity needed to charge a battery. If the battery is being boiled, it is because the charger has made a bad decision.

In talking to a battery supplier and other RV'ers, I have heard that if you use two six volt batteries in serries, the output is much stronger and more lasting then using two 12 volts. My source for the comversion will cost about $250 for the batteries with the conversion done. He is installing two new top of the line batteries.

Two schools of thought.... 6v golf cart batteries definitely have more storage capacity than the deep cycle 12v type. I do a fair amount of dry camping and switched to the 6v, 2 in series. However, this year I switched back to the 12v. I was in the boondocks and had one of my 6v go bad with a bad cell. I was stuck. I had to remove the battery from my truck to get the slides back in. Had I been running the 12v and had a bad cell, I could just take the bad battery out and still have one 12v battery to keep things running.
