Hot Water Tank-Check Valve Removal

Trying to remove/replace brass hot water tank check valve at HOT end but can't seem to budge it--is it a standard thread, that is, anti-clockwise to loosen it?? I don't want to damage the fitting/tank. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I used a small pipe wrench with a cheater bar, it was super-tight. You are corect, rightsy-tightsy, lefty loosey..
