Cherry Hill Park

We have now been in Cherry Hill Park in College Park outside Wahington DC for two weeks with two more to go. I haven't checked any other campgrounds in the DC area but this is a great park. The Metro Bus comes right into the park. You board for 13.50 and go to the Metro station. From here on the Green Line you go anywhere you want in DC. In two weeks we have moved the TV only 3 times. The site #512 is spacious and the interstate noise is hardly noticeable. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly and will answer any question you may have. The price is higher than we normally pay at $45 with GS discount, but is well worth it. If you are going to come to the DC area give Cherry Hill a look.

When we stayed at Cherry Hill Park, the bus to the Metro station only cost $0.50 for seniors. That was 4 years ago. I can't believe the cost inflated by 2700% in that short of a period. Is it possible you meant $1.35?

You are right I should have been clearer in the cost. It is 1.25 for the bus and another $5.50 for the Metro that comes to $6.75 and $13.50 for the DW and I. I had $13.50 stuck in my head because that's what I paid the lady everyday we went to town. Sorry about the confusion. It is still cheaper and easier than driving the Dodge to the Mall.

Thanks for the clarification. You are right. It's a great place to stay while touring DC. We visited all over the area by using the Metro and then walking to see the sights. I don't think you can beat the location of that park for visiting the city. People may think it's pricey, but what isn't these days? If you can afford the fuel to get there, you should be able to afford the cost of the park.

Dave and Carla, thanks for the info. It sounds like you are there for a month. Do they have a monthly rate or do you pay the daily rate for the full four weeks?

We have two granddaughters in the DC area we take for a week each summer. This summer we have reservations for Fredericksburg KOA but are always on the lookout for alternatives.

Thanks.

When I first looked at the cost I almost choked, but after some thought I felt this is a once in a life time trip and the cost should not be a deciding factor. Now that we have been here two weeks I have come to the conclusion that a month won't do it. We missed the cherry blossoms as a storm came through 3 days before we got here so we will be back. Cherry Hill will be our base again.

Steve, there is no special reduced monthly rate. It is $50 per night for a back in and $55 for a pull through. They do give the Good Sam discount and I think AAA and AARP.
