RV Park/Campground near Riverview, Florida

Go figure, all of the snowbirds have left, and here I am in Florida. Looking for recommendations for an RV Park/Campground near Riverview, Florida, going to visit family. Do not want to go to Tampa, prefer to stay within a 20 mile radius of Riverview.

Thanks for any information,
Marge

Did a look-up for "Riverview, FL" and found two...one South of Tampa, which I am familiar with and the other was North in the panhandle. I presume, since you mentioned Tampa, you are looking at the one in the Tampa area??? If you don't mind a bit of a drive (down I75), QuailRun RV park off I75 in Wesley Chapel (just North of Tampa) is where we stay when we are preparing to take off on our trips...price isn't too bad, facilities are ok, and location is good...for us, at any rate.

I keep my Monty at a storage area in Riverview. The rv parks around that area are shabby to be polite. Riverview is about exit 250 on I-75, if you go south to exit 210 Fruitville Road, you'll fine this resort. Very nice, been there, and easy off easy on the interstate. It will keep you out of the Tampa traffic and be close to Riverview.

As a Tampa resident since 1982, I concur...nothing in or near Riverview is going to be very nice. That said, the Rally park at the Lazy Days RV dealership is very close to Riverview and has very modern facilities. Don't know the prices, but would be easy access to where you are going.

Our son used to live in Riverview and we stayed at a state park near there called Alfia River State Park. It is about 12 miles from Riverview. We looked around at different RV Parks in that area and they were all very shabby and run down. This was a very nice spacious park. I believe it is fairly new. Water and Electric, no sewer but there is a dump station. $22 per night.

I would recommend Rock Crusher RV in Crystal River. We spent several days there and it is a easy drive into Tampa down the Veterans HWY (toll). They have a great pool.

I live in sun City Center which is 2 exits down from Riverview. If you don't mind not having sewer (but they have a dump station) you can go to a county park...E G Simmons Park. It is really nice as all state and county parks are here in the Tampa Bay area. You will be right on the bay and very close to Riverview. I think it is only $16 a night. There are also full hookup RV parks in Palmetto or Parish area (try Encore Resorts) which is about 15 miles down the road from the Riverview exit. My favorite campground in the entire world is Fort DeSoto Park over in Pinellas county. It has been rated the number one beach in the USA several times and the campground is beautiful. It might be full until after memorial day, but I wouldn't hesitate to go there. It would be about a 30 to 40 minute ride to Riverview but I don't think you would be unhappy. Good luck with your search.

Alafia State Park is very open (no trees) but quiet and well cared for. Also relatively new. We've stayed there and enjoyed it.

I've heard good things about Rock Crusher, but it is a bit of a hike down to Riverview.

Probably the closest would be Lithia Springs Park campground; you'd only be 6-7 miles away from Riverview. I've seen it (as I paddled by in a canoe) but not stayed there. Here's a link to a review: http://floridarambler.com/florida-be...-springs-park/

I have to second CasaDelSol's recommendtion for Fort Desoto, if you can get in there and don't mind the drive. Camping on the beach? And one of the best beaches in the US? Hard to beat!

Well, you aren't exactly on the beach in the campground area of Fort DeSoto, but it is part of the gulf waterway. The actual beach area is about 1/2 mile away. You can put a kayak or canoe in right at your campsite because most are water sites. No sewer there either, but they have 2 dump stations and the bathroom/shower buildings are clean.

Thanks for all of the suggestions/recommendations, will start looking into them. We won't be in the Tampa/Riverview area until June 4th. Presently we are at Sigsbee campground in Key West and just loving it, sea breezes all of the time.

Again thanks,
Marge

Let us know where you end up and what you think of it. Enjoy the keys! I've been in Florida for 14 years and haven't made it there yet.
