Kentucky Campgrounds

Any one know of any good campgrounds in Kentucky? Especially around the Louisville area. Want to go down and visit our grandson for a few days before he goes back to school.

Have spotted a couple of KOA's. The one in Shepherdsville and also, considering going on down to The KOA in Horse City at Mammouth Cave State Park. It appears to look nice for a respectable price.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about these.

Thanks,

There is a state park in Indiana, Charlestown State Park. They have asphalt pads and full hook-up sites with 30/50 amp. The park is approx. 20 minutes northeast of Louisville. Approx. 18 miles from the park to the Ohio River. We stay there once or twice a year for extended weekends.

Our favorite park in KY is the Kentucky Horse Park just north of Lexington. It may be a bit to far from Louisville, but it sure is nice.

We stayed at Grandma's RV Park in Shepherdsville, KY which is south of Louisville on I-65. It's been 2 years since we were there, but it was a great base to get into Louisville. It is close to the freeway, but a decent place to stay, and my notes show we were there for 3 nights. At that time we paid $21.60 per night for a full (50 amp) hookup, pull-thru site including free WiFi. Phone number is 502-543-7023, and it is located at 159 Dawson Drive. Of course our favorite place to stay in Kentucky is the Kentucky Horse Park, but that is in Lexington and too far from Louisville, however certainly worth a stop on your way to or from Louisville.
