Maxair II over Fantastic Fan? - Montana Owners Club

I have a 2011 Mountaineer that Does Not have the rain sensor and tried to install a Maxair II cover over it but found I can not get to the inside of the flange because it has like a double wall? Has anyone installed a Maxair over their Fantastic Fan? Dealer said it would be ok since it did not have rain sensor and you can control how high the lid opens.

I just installed the MAXXAIR Fan Mate cover over mine. I had to use sheet metal screws to hold it on. 2 screws per L bracket into the side of the fan housing, also used 1 screw per bracket down into the frame around the fan.

Installed MaxxAir and a Turbo maxx fan over our vents. Used self tapers to mount same as oldelmer1

Fantastic Fan was an exhibitor at the recent Escapees Rally here in Goshen IN. There were several large signs at their booth specifically saying "do not put anything over a fantastic Fan". Covers reduce the air flow and tax the motor. Fantastic has been very good about replacing broken fan parts but if they know a cover has been put on, that might change.

I agree that it's not a good idea to put a MaxxAir over a Fantastic Fan. Some years ago when I called the Fantastic Vent people, they told me that it restricts the air flow but that if you do put a MaxxAir over their fan that it WILL NOT void the warranty. We took off our MaxxAir covers when we installed three Fantastic Fans.

So if it was a good idea to put a cover over the fantastic fan then why wouldn't the Fantastic fan company make a cover and sell it? The Fantastic fan people are great to work with and will fully stand behind their products. Sounds like Maxxair is just trying to sell as many covers as they can...which they should. Buyer beware. No cover for us on our Fantastic fans.

I guess each to his own, I had a cover on my old 5'ers fantastic fan for 4 years and had no problems. So thats why I put one on the new Montana.

It would seem to me that a person wouldn't want to install these great Fantastic Fans that move a lot of air and then restrict the flow of that air exhausting out of the rig. Also, with any type of cover over the fans, you restrict the amount of air that can be drawn into the rig. We often sleep with one fan in the bedroom bringing air in and one in the living room exhausting the air from the rig.

My fantastic vent have rain sensors that can be deactivated. Is it possible that your vents have rain sensors but are not turned on?

We have the large MaxxAir cover, the one designed for high volume fans, over our fantastic fan. The fan has the rain sensor. I know it does cut down somewhat on airflow but it still works fine. And most important to us is we can continue to use it even in the rain. It's been on there for four years and we've had no problems with the fan.

Barry & Ellen, I didn't do anything at all to the rain sensors. Since the cover doesn't allow rain to get to them, they just sit there and do nothing.

I too put the large Maxair cover atop my Fantastic fan. Same reason, that I can now keep the cover open in the rain and we get a lot of that. It also protects the Fantastic fan lid in high winds.

Covered mine also. Not being able to use it in the rain was why. Moves plenty of air with the cover on.

I have MAXXAIRs over both my Fantastics - as well as the bath vent. We like to also use the pull in / push out circulation scheme for great "sleeping" air movement.

We get a lot of wind here and it's nice to know that our vent covers are not going to be ripped off in a blow - or that the hail will shatter them also.

Highly recomment the MAXXAIRs - plenty of air circulation with them retrofitted over the Fantastics and regular vents. You do have to be careful not to "over torque" the lid lift motor and mechanism - but mine have been trouble free.

I've had the big Maxx Air over the Fantastic fan for almost 6 yrs with no problems. I like to keep it on when it rains and also, If you camp under a tree, that rain sensor will drive you nuts when the rain stops and starts and stops, but the wind blows and rain drops fall from trees. Up and down, up and down. I also have a seasonal site and I when its hot and humid and I'm going home to the stick house, I leave it on a real low setting so that it comes on occassionally to reduce the humidity in the fiver.
