Yes. that's what I was referring to. Lifetime updates. It makes it hard to justify paying another $430 for the 760 just for 1" larger screen unless there's more to it. For everyday driving I have nice navigation in my F350 so I would only need the Garmin for clearance issues.

While likely not a problem, you should be aware of Garmin's definition of Lifetime. Link

In other words, they can say at any time that your product is outdated and if you want any new updates you will have to buy a new unit!!!! So much for "lifetime updates"! Obviously a sales gimmick. And as we all know, what electronic gadget geeks think is "outdated" is a looonnnnnnnngggggg way from what the rest of think! Heck I had one kid tell me my 6month old laptop was "ancient" LOL by that definition he was an antique and I had been recycled several times LOL.....

Good info Carl!

On the other hand, my 6+ year (maybe even a lot more) old Nuvi is still getting updates. It doesn't seem to be all that bad in reality.

One other thing with lifetime updates. As the maps get bigger and bigger each update. My experience has been the older units do not have sufficient RAM memory. To get around this when you download the package and unpack it. Delete all the language files(except for the one you need) and any other miscellaneous useless files to reduce the physical size of the upload to the GPS unit.

The Girraffe G4, IF you read their FAQ. IT only measures straight up and is only accurate up to 30MPH. Way too late even if you were only going 30MPH to stop.

It seems as if the Lowclearances web site does exactly what the RV and Trucker GPS units do. Except they have an app for the android and IOS devices.

I have used the Garmin 760 for 20,000 miles and it is not infallible. NEVER trust any GPS! After choosing my route I turn to Google Satellite view and look over any non-interstate roads for bridges and RR crossings and to familiarize my self with up coming turns, trouble points and to see my next RV park from the air. I also use RV Parks App to search the route for low bridges just to see were to avoid. You can set the app to mark all the bridges under 14 ft or lower. My wife uses the Garmin 760 to advise me but I have the route memorized and have often saved myself from disaster by knowing the way before I get in the truck. My route is sometimes different then the one the Garmin chooses so I have to pick way points to make the GPS follow my route and then I go thru it with my wife so she understands whats coming. I may sound crazy but I have never been lost or in a bad situation in my travels.

I have tried both the Garmin units; 660 and 760. Altho it was 18 months or so ago, neither worked in RV mode. I spent quite a bit of time with the Garmin techs but they could never figure out why they could not find their way. It may have been a problem with Garmin's maps in our area, but we never were able to get them to work. In any event, I returned both to Amazon and am still using my old Nuvi. My reviews should be still up on Amazon's site.

It's probably the Sedona crystals interfering with the Garmins.

My Garmin 760 was just updated yesterday. It is over 3 years old. As the saying goes I'll "never leave home without it" in RV mode while pulling the 5er. Actually, it is stored and the built in dash unit used when not pulling.

Cheezy1, I thought I was the only one who did this, my wife doesn't understand the need for such detail, I even plan my fuel stops with TruckMaster Fuel Minder.

I'm new to all this and looking at this new monster in my driveway, I've been somewhat anal about planning the first 200+ mile trip. Used Mapquest to give me the first looksee. Then used Google Earth to spy on the routes. Used TxDot for more research. Found a big stretch of FM908 under construction. Used latest Truckers Atlas to check more stuff. Might consider getting the RV 660LMT but after reading some reviews, maybe not. These things are soo BIG!
My NUVI works great and I've fetched a couple of phone and IPad apps to let my co-pilot keep an eye on things.

MapQuest can get you in trouble. Try the Trucker Path app instead. I've had the RV 760 for years and it has not lead me astray in nearly 42,000 miles. Actually, confirmed it kept me out of trouble at least 6 - 8 times. Don't get so many apps that confusion sets in.
