Bedroom TV Cabinet mod

We decided to purchase an LED TV for the bedroom. The old TV was a Prima tube type TV/DVD combo. Obviously, the new TV wouldn't cover the entire hole, so Kat & I went to Home Depot and purchased about 3' of poplar and some stain to match our existing cabinetry and set out to modify our bedroom cabinet (Kat also wanted the extra storage space behind the TV!)

We went garage selling today and purchased the piece of glass for a buck. The hardware I had, but did purchase a piece of A/C filter cloth like we have on our air conditioners for the back of the cabinet.

Total cost was less than a Jackson.

Thanks for the idea!
I’ve wanted to do something with a gap at the top of the cabinet area where we replaced the old TV as well.

We have the same unit and have been thinkng of replacing the TV just could not figure out how to make it look right. What size TV did you use? We have been looking at a 22 inch LED. Also what color stain and brand matched? Looks really good and has to be great to get rid of that monster! Thanks for sharing!

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. I mounted the new TV on the inside of the door and made a filler from a piece of oak and some plywood for the gap. We love the extra storage.

Replaced mine with a 26in Viso. It is only about an 1-1/2 inches think. It cover the whole tv hole. Just had to move the the knob on the frame.

cdaniels,

The stain/polyurethane blend is Minwax Polyshades Pecan Gloss 420 on poplar wood.
