Truck be storage boxes & tonneau covers

I've got a F350 with 6.75 foot bed. Pull a Montana 3000RK 5th wheel. I'd like to have a storage box as well as a tonneau cover for the back of my truck. Wondering what kind of set up everyone uses.
Thanks for your replies

Long bed. Have a aluminum tool box from Tractor Supply, height just an inch below bed rails. Mounted in Front. Total bed then covered with Truxedo Edge soft rollup.

Here it is the one I’m looking at is a transfer tank too.

Here's what I have: Truxedo TruXport Roll-up Truck Bed Cover. Works real nice except I found that if I rolled all the way to the cab it will rub against the finish, so don't do that!

You didn't say what year Ford you have, but a member here has a fairly new Truxedo Deuce, that fits a Ford 6.75' bed, for sale on Craigs List. He dumped a F250 for a F150 and thought it would fit the new F150. No such luck. Here is the listing:

Just installed a Truxedo Lo Pro 15 Tuesday. Newest cover they have I think in a flat mat finish. It sits at a 15 degree vs 30 degree angle. They also moved the tensioners to the tailgate which makes adjustment way easier. 20 min. install easy.
The F350 8' is same as our F 450

We have a Dodge short bed and use a below the rails tool box from Lowes and a Gator roll up bed cover. The set up has been good for three years now.

Just got my Truxedo Deuce installed Monday night.
Next question: Once the Deuce is rolled up to the cab, it still overhangs the bed by about 6 inches. Do you mount your tool box up tight to the front, or pull it pack the 6 inches, so you can open the box lid??

And, using the TonneauMate, are you concerned about overloading the box and causing the supports to fail.
I need some place to store tire chains, tow strap, misc tool boxes, spare oil, spare urea, etc.

Installation is very easy. First roll up the tonneau and strap it. Then open the Duece and flip it back, cover and all. This gives you more room to work. Since you already have the Duece, you will not need the rails and seals that come with the TonneauMate. I did use the clamps that came with it for extra security on the tonneau rails.
Now, just follow the instructions for mounting the box. Flip the Duece back over and open the lid of the box to make sure of you clearance. After that, just center the box side to side and secure.
This sounds more confusing than it really is. Trust me, you'll spend more time reading the instructions and getting your tools ready than you will with the actual install.
As far as carrying stuff in the box, I believe it is rated at 250lbs. I have things like extra oil, antifreeze, washer fluid, 12v compressor, tow straps, bungees, tarp, blanket and misc other junk. I carry my extra 2 1/2 gallon jugs of DEF between the front of the truck bed and the box. Tools can get out of control so I carry an emergency only, basic set of tools behind the back seat.
So far, I have been very happy with my setup.
If you have any other questions, just PM me.

Agreed I did not realize that would happen-but my black paint shows it. I have a 2013 and the new trucks seem to have the glass coming down lower as it likely will not affect the new Ford truck styles. I think that the only way to fix would be to get the cover removed and see if it could be buffed out or just re-paint.

Get it buffed out and have a tint shop put some clear mask on that spot. It’s great stuff

Lund Genesis elite tri fold cover and swing out tool boxes in back two corners of the bed work well for me.
Really like the canvas fabric instead of vinly for cover material, completely waterproof and looks great.

I absolutely love my Retrax Pro. It costs, but it is lightweight aluminum and can stopped and locked at any length. I bought the matte black finish and it looks awesome.

I've got the same truck. I went on the cheap and just got a couple truck storage boxes from Manards. $11 each. Fits across the front with enough room for my extra exhaust fluid. As far as the cover goes, I roll up a piece of rope with the cover and bungee it to the frame rails. Rides fine. During a rain event everything will still get wet. But that's the price we pay for being 5er people.

have 6.5' box, installed the "ReTrac" 7 or 8 yrs ago, awesome tonneau cover, key lockable, keeps things dry when used on OEM tailgate.
