Taking sewing machines

Has anyone taken their sewing machines on a week's camping trip? I have a couple of projects I'd like to work on but I don't know if it's worth it to haul a sewing machine and serger on a trip for only a week. For those that have done it should I take them with me or leave them at home? Thanks!

We fulltime, wife has a sewing/embroidery machine and serger with her all the time. Only takes a few minutes to pull them out of the basement and set them up on the dinning room table. Hardest part for her is cutting patterns. Not a lot of space for that.

Part of the fun of having a Montana is the storage space. I say take them with you.

We don't go anywhere without taking the DW's sewing/quilting machine and a boatload of supplies and projects, so......

DW is an avid quilter and has taken her machine on several trips before. But she also hand pieces, knits, and crochets. So the last few trips she has not taken the machine, but the other tools instead. But probably just a matter of time.

DW takes sewing machine when needed. Too nervous about taking the embroidery machine.

Pat is an avid quilter and always takes a machine, even for a weekend.

Yup. DW is a quilter as well. Made a spot where the washer goes to store babylock. Use the basement to store all the fabric.

As full timers my machine is always with me. All my knitting supplies too. Also, mover 100 acrylics paints and various projects (wood) as I paint during the winter months.mi figure if DH can have 4 toolboxes and his gym equipment I can have my hobbies too.

I leave my Featherweight in my trailer. If I am doing a project that is more than straight stitch....I bring along another machine from my stash. I also leave a couple of boxes of scrapbook supplies and a needlepoint stand in there as well. I gotta keep busy!!!

Thanks for all the replies! When we travel for several months at a time I will definitely take my machine(s). Since I got so many positive replies I think I will load them up and take them next week. I just need to get my second project cut out before we go as I don't think I could do that very well in the Montana.

We have a large poly table that stores in our underbelly and a large cutting matt as well. Maureen is often seen outside cutting away at her table and this initiates a lot of conversation with people passing by.

I like the cutting outside idea. I'll file that one away for when we go on the road. Thanks again for all the replies!

I did take both the sewing machine and serger. It took up all the table with the leaf. I did get quite a bit done so it was worth it. Now if I can just improve my sewing skills and not have to use the seam ripper so much! :-)

Had a toy hauler pull in next to us this weekend. Wife met the gal and of coure they found out they both like to sew. I think I am in trouble. The toy hauler end has been converted to a sewing room. I met Dave and he gave me a tour. The room has its own tv, toilet and shower. He had some cabnits installed and it had a serger a regular sewing machine and a embroidery machine, and more material than Jo-Ann Fabrics. Dave said he got tired of haveing to move machines in his other 5vr and had to put up with the noise. Dave said he likes the toy door to load and unload machines to and from the stick house.

Oh no!!! Can't let Maureen see the above post or she might get too many ideas from that one. We had previously looked at the second bath model and contemplated a renovating it to a sewing room which in our case would make more sense than a second bath.

I don't log in often. It's Cathy. Yes, I leave a featherweight & tool bag in the RV all summer. I have hanging project bags that don't take up much room. I hang them in where the washer/dryer is located. I use the pant hanger which holds 5 zippered project bags, flat & neat. I store my featherweight in the master bedroom closet on the floor when not in use. And odds and ends, matts, rulers & cutters in the drawer under the couch.
Have sewing machine will travel.

Dennis here. Looks like a quilt shop at times but that is ok. Plenty of space for the hobbies

My wife has a sewing machine she always brings, and we have a 200# leather sewing machine and stand we take for our Mobil leather business.
Customizing your home on wheels should fit your life style, bring it and you have your home the way you want it
Have fun!
