Went in search of Petosky stones
We hit Petosky State park today on a search for Petosky stones. We found a few and a couple of fossils, but none of the quality you see in pictures or shops. The locals pick most of the good ones as soon as the ice leaves in the spring. For those who don't know what they are go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petoskey_stone

Another good time to look for them is after a storm. We found several some years ago on a beach at a small
park just north of Leland (Fish Town). Can't remember the name of the park. Good luck!

When telling the DW about this, she says to me, "Hey, we have one of those" and proceeds to show me one. Not quite 4" round though. It's about 3/4" at best!

Friend of ours has probably 5 5gal. buckets full in their basement. Said they are getting hard to find. His cousin owns the KOA in Hoback Jct. Wy. and makes Silver jewelry and such. He made a belt buckle for Kenny and he used an Elk tooth, a Bear claw, and a Petoskey stone in the middle. It was really cool and a great conversation piece.

While in the U.P. last year I was corrected by the waitress when I pronounced it PAAstie instead of a PAHstie. Good thing I was with the DW. I'll end the story right there

Enjoy our beautiful MI Dick. I was just over in Petosky last week. They have a casino over there that's pretty nice if interested. Beautiful place also. Right now we are straight across the state in the Alpena area till next week when we will start our southern migration once again.

Glad to see you're enjoying Michigan Dick. We brought Hannah home from the woods in West Branch today. Next stop Goshen, then back to West Branch for deer season and Thanksgiving.
