Outside LED Install
Installed my LED lights. They are wired to the porch light switch and the lights recall their last setting when turned on. Thanks John and Hook. Here is a link to a slide show: http://x.co/4B21I

That is sweet. Are they the multi-colored LED's that Camping World had on sale?

Joe,
Can you provide some details on the connection between the white control box and the dc wiring for the porch light. The box I have has the plug connector for the ac/dc converter on it. Did you cut the black wire to wire into the dc feed for the porch light. Trying to get my plan together for the installation and whether to use the porch light. On the 3850, the porch light is about 4' to the left of the end of the awning. Guess I would have to run feed line to the control box about 3.5 - 4' so I might have to extend it along the lights. Also looking at Jim Fischers suggestion of going in through the awning end, but then have to get creative with control box location. Decisions, decisions!!

Instead of cutting the a/c adapter, I used this.

Yea, my porch light is right at the end, so it was perfect for me. Good luck.

Thanks, I never would have dreamed that such a contraption was available. That solves that problem!

I put these on my 3615re but they keep falling off. The adhesive gets kind off gummy and then the weight of the lights make them come off. Did you use a different kind of adhesive? I also have had a lot of the lights stop working.

The people I know who've installed these under the awning have replaced the standard adhesive with the 3M Automotive double sided tape for Advanced Auto, etc.

Captain Joe, a couple of questions about your job:
First, most of the LED strips I'm finding are 16' long. My awning is 20'. How about yours? If your awning was also longer than the lights, did you splice in any extra light strip or just leave it shorter? If you left it shorter, did you center the strip to the awning or just start at one end for the run?
Next, I am worried about getting a straight run without obvious waves in the strip once attached. I am thinking of shooting a laser line from my wall framing laser to get a straight line, then marking that line before attaching the 3M moulding tape. How did you address this issue, or do I even need to worry? Yours looked pretty darn straight to me!
Thanks again for your help!
Semper Fi

Mark,
I have a 19' awning and the LED lights are 16'. We measured down (I think we did 4") from the awning rail underneath the awning and used painter tape to mark the line. We put the auto tape on first and then the lights. Hope this helps and I received your PM. Semper Fi and good luck.

Ok I know this is an old thread but I need to know just one thing? I am about ready to install the LED light and my outside light is only about 4" from where the lights will start. I removed the amber lends on the light and I see only one black wire. I assume that it is of course the hot line to the light. I also assume that the light is grounded by the bulb holder?? So I have ordered the little gismo that captionjack shows on his install. It has a positive input and a negative input. So I would think that I can attach that black wire to the positive input and run a wire from the negative input to a grounding point. By the way I will have 10 of the gismos so if anyone needs or wants one just PM me.

The tape that comes on the LED strips is no good. It should be replaced with this. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JOVUO0/..._M3T1_ST1_dp_1
I just received my tape yesterday and hope to install my lights in the next few days.
H Joh Kohl already did the mod and this is what he used. He said to install tape to LED before attaching to trailer. He installed right under awning mounting strip. The power may be attached to LED in many places along the strip, not just from the ends.
Check out this link for soldering hints.
