Wingman vs Jack
What's the verdict...I am getting mixed reviews online. Trying to decide which to get.

I put the Jack on my last fiver and it did not perform as well as my original batwing. I ended up removing the Jack and put the batwing back on.

Has anyone tried the retrofit Rayzar ( http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp...ce=google_base)? Been thinking about getting rid of the bat and going with this (if it works).

I put the replacement head Jack on our antenna crank. I immediately went from 7 to 18 Channels. Outstanding reception and an easy replacement. I wish I had spent the extra $ to get the standalone Jack, but I didn't want the hassle of replacing and wiring the thing if i wasn't going to work well. Ours works great!

I put on the jack in Sept. and it does appear to give better reception. Most of the time we boondock out in the "boonies", thus getting more channels than the batwing has not proved to be true with us. Is it worth the money...still trying to decide.

I have had Both the jack and the wine guard the jack worked better after I retrofitted the short antenna dipoles with longer ones then the jack worked amazing. over all I like the idea of not putting the antenna up or down as the jack is stationary but the wine guard allowed for the antenna to be lowered when I would put on my winter cover and had to place milk crates around the jack antenna. but now I have the wine guard back on my new Montana and I have satellite and or cable so I do not use it. but if I had a choice and not have to place a winter cover on my unit I would pick the jack.

Another vote for Jack! Have had improvement from 10 to 32 channels at specific locations. The Jack at least doubles the channel selection for us anyway! Of course, you get duplicates across the board of the major channels but it's better that way because some will come in better than others. Go with the Jack and you won't go wrong!
Just to give you all a little hint also-- Jim Boylan who once owned a Montana but has since sold it posted this site for all to check out back on February 10th, 2011. It is the FCC site to find TV stations by keying in the zipcode you are in when camping. It really helps also when you're searching for the direction you need to point your antenna to get good reception.
The website is: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps/
Jim--If you read this, we miss you guys around the Rallies and hope all is going well with you and Carol!

Just put the Jack on today. At home (mountains) I went from zero channels to 7. We'll be on the road in two weeks, we'll see what that brings.

Slink, below is a link to the JACK website. It is an antenna that can be attached to your Winegard batwing mast or they also have one that mounts directly to the roof and doesn't need to be cranked up. We are very happy with ours. They can be purchased at Camping World or Amazon. Hope this helps. Tim

Slink, I guess I'm not understanding what you mean by the bat wing won't work because your A/c unit is in the way. Could it be that your antenna is not rotated to the correct "home" position before trying to retract? What year and model is your RV? I really don't thing an RV manufacturer would install an antenna that couldn't be used because an A/C unit is in the way. Tim
