Dometic Micro/Convection Combo
We have this combo in our camper and when I open the outside vent, and turn the combo's fan on, I see a another damper inside behind the outside vent damper. This silver(almost galvanized color) damper seems to be closing off the opening inside for the air to blow outside.
I would greatly appreciate it of someone with this combo could look at theirs and see if they too have this inside damper on their unit.
THANKS....
Tom

The new units have a damper you can open? My old 07 unit just has a catch to keep it closed. here is the 1/2-time oven taken apart on mine:

OZZ,
Yes, there is an outside damper with 2 little levers for locking it closed.
But I also have a damper inside, so when the fan is on, the outside damper opens up from the force of the air coming out, but there is also another damper inside that seems to block some of the air flow.

Here is a picture of this second damper inside the vent opening:
This is what it looks like when the fan is on.

Tom, The flap you are asking about has been removed on mine and it is in the plastic bag with the owners manual. I went out and looked to make sure and when I raise the plastic cover there is nothing there. I also have the Dometic.

Tom, after looking at your picture, I immediately went out and looked at my micro/oven exhaust vent and discovered the same scenario. When I turned on the vent and went outside to check the flow, I could definitely tell the flow was restricted and the internal metal vent flap was hitting the center support of the exterior plastic exhaust cap. I went ahead and pulled the metal vent flap off. When I turned the power on again it was night and day difference. The amount of flow was double and more of what I would call normal. As a former builder, I tried to figure out why this happened and all I think of was the left hand wasn't talking to the right hand and no one ever checked the output with the type of vent cap used.

Yet another item they should cover on the PDI
You would think they might have told the buyers this.
Tom, looks like Jim (ranch560) and awaywego solved the riddle. Dick, maybe you should take yours off too.

I think you're right. I've installed three of these in my Sticks and Bricks over the years and what it looks like is the vent cover you remove if the unit is actually vented. If it's just hanging about the stove and isn't vented then you leave it in place. I'm going to call Dometic tomorrow and see what they say. I'll post their answer when I get it.

Yup, I've learned the hard way over the years that is much cheaper to act on what I know for a fact than what I just believe.

OLDELMER1 - In answer to your question about removal, no it wasn't hard to remove. The metal flap is very lightweight aluminum. It is secured by small pins in each corner. I just gently bent the flap until one corner popped out, bent 1/4 of the flap onto itself, and slid it out the opening.

Called Dometic customer service and got a woman who said she thought we shouldn't remove the damper because bugs etc would then get in. I pointed out that the vent had a flap on it. She then said I should talk to Keystone since they installed it that way. I pointed out that if Dometic didn't know the answer how would Keystone. She repeated that she wasn't qualified to answer the question and so I asked how I could reach someone who was qualified and she suggested I email the question to Dometic Customer Service and so I did and that's where we are so far.

Leaving no turn unstoned I called Keystone anyway. Gave then the picture that was on the thread and they are going to take it to the factory and customer service and get me an answer. So hopefully we will get a definitive answer from someone. Possibly even someone who knows what their talking about

Thanks for the followups Dick.
But I would not hold my breath for finding someone who who knows what they are talking about.

I have seen on several rigs that the metal flapper is in a bag in a drawer in the kitchen. While looking at various rigs at dealers. I also saw the flapper in a kitchen drawer on the factory tour. I believe they are removed at the factory and that somebody either forgot to remove yours or just didn't bother. Even our first rig a Jayco had the same item in the kitchen drawer...

I am not surprised of your answer from Dometic. Sounds like the same girl I talked to trying to infro on a 2nd air. Every question I asked was "I think so". I want someone who knows something when I call?? At least Keystone is looking into it. Have'nt checked ours yet but will.

Well the only thing Dometic would do is send me the operating and installation instruction which of course show that you have to put the damper on. They would not speculate on what would happen if you took it off. Probably a lawyer in the background. Anyway, the installation instructions show that they don't expect there to be any obstruction in the vent opening because they expect there to be some ductwork before the actual vent. All of the instructions were for installing it in a sticks and bricks, nothing about installing it in an RV. Now we'll see if I get anything from Keystone.

When I installed my Whirlpool in the home kitchen I had to remove the flap since it was ducted. The manual said not to remove if I wanted to have it circulate through the charcoal filter and back into room.
If anyone needs a flap I have the one that came in the package with the owners manual for the Dometic. Just stop by and you can have it.
