Shower leak continues

I noticed last fall I had a leak when ever the shower was used. Water would dribble out along the side wall above the convience center which is directly below the shower. So over the winter I caulked everything inside the shower and even the two screws in the rail below the shower door. Fast forward to this spring and same thing. Today I had the chance to open the panels in the basement below the shower and turned it on. No leaks there whatsoever. Waterlines tight and dry and drain pipe likewise. Still leaking in the same spot above the convience center. Got a flashlight and throughly inspected my caulking. Hmmm, looks like I a missed a tiny area. Will dry it out, pull out the old caulking and redo. Wish me luck.

I dealt with an intermittent shower leak for about a year. My final solution was to re-plumb the drain with metal fittings rather than the plastic OEM drain connections. I also loosened the strap holding up the drain. This allowed for more flexing of the shower floor. The strap was causing a twist on the drain line.

Maybe it’s coming from outside the shower wall on one of the water lines whenever the water is on. Water can be so difficult to trace sometimes; just a thought.

Make sure the caulk your using is holding. I use a product call RTV 732 by Dow Corning, well i was out so i bought another brand. Applied, let it dry for a couple days and all seemed ok. Then I winterized everything and noticed the pink stuff was getting under the caulk. The seem separated with just a little pressure, but, unless i pushed on it it looked sealed. I've used RTV for years and I can't think of a time it didn't work. I have no connection to RTV or Dow Corning. lol

kevin

Ps: the spot you need to caulk I would clean really good with alcohol.
