New RVers mishaps.

The learning curve is something everyone has to go through if your new to the RV world as was our experience and what we found was that people are very reluctant to discuss there war stories, all of our mishaps that were conveyed to other RVers were met with the Oh we done that or we done this, but that was never forthcoming unless we fessed up first. Some are fortunate to get through the RV boot camp unscathed, but I would bet a dime to a doughnut everone has a story to tell, its just that they dont want to tell it. We thought all the trouble would take place hooking and unhooking and on the road, what we found was your trouble was not on the road as long as you stay in your lane and watch your speed, most if not all your trouble will be what you do off the road, the yellow posts are my nemisis, so relax when your on the road and be very very careful off the road.

Alrighty, I have to give more warning about being rushed to go. Last weekend we were leaving our spot and thought the wheels had sunk in soft mud. So we pulled forward and had gone about 2 miles when someone flagged me saying I was smoking in the rear. Noticed my electric brake wasn't indicating, and thought $%^(*&^&*()(*&^&*(*&, just what I need. After about 30-45 minutes with help from people at a used car dealership. Thier friend suggested, check the trailer deadman switch(little white thing at the end of the steel cable). Low and behold that was it. It pulled off when I disengaged the 5er, the night before.
Now we went to the tire center to have them check the brakes, they were fine. Now, the mechanic said you have another problem. You have a tired out of round, another $%^&*(*&^&*()*&^&*() came out. It turned out the spare tire (5er supplied)I used after a China bomb experience, turned out to another Mission tire. Had that replaced and got to next destination, the landing gear won't work. There another ^*(&^&*(*&^*()(*&^ comes out. Had the landing gear checked and had the switch replaced ($150). So, figuring all is done, we start to setup and the landing gear gearing is slipping. Just sat there with my palms on cheeks asking myself, what next??? Got landing gear to work, needing new cogs and going to start tomorrow by ordering them to replace. Easy fix for that.
A few days before these things happened, while putting out the slides, a chair handle caught the trim piece and pulled it loose. Then opening another slide, didn't notice a bottom cabinet door swing open and broke it off. Goes to show, anything can happen. Happy trails to all. My 2007, 3500Rl Monty. Now this is only in October, 2011.

embraceatrend - great words of advice. Before I bought this thing I thought I would be scared to death driving down the highway. Just the opposite. Once I get going, that is when I feel safest.

After totaling up the most recent damage the repair bill was $1,400. A total of $600 was for new steps and labor and about the same amount for the damage the blowout did to the wheel shirt and side of the 5er body just above the wheel shirt. I also got $230 toward another Marathon tire. I'm moving up to the bigger Goodyear G 614. $60 more dollars a piece than the Marathon but I have way more confidence in them.

If you can get the G 614 for $60.00 a piece you better grab them and run!!!!!! They are at least $300.00 each. If you deduct that from yur $1400.00 Your only about $400.00 in the red!
