If You're Headed To Quartzsite Via Needles, CA

Plan on fueling up prior to, or after reaching Needles. Diesel prices when we came through on December 13th were $3.70 per gallon.

Don,
Thanks for the warning but I'm sure we warned folks some years ago about the price gouging that takes place in Needles. Heck if nothing else drive across the bridge and you can get much cheaper fuel in AZ. Parker used to be much cheaper but last couple of years the savings were marginal.

I'm sorry we had not updated folks about the Needles ripoff. But thanks for reminding us all.

Sounds like you are enjoying your trip. How did you like that little climb out of Las Cruces?

See you soon.

Right now diesel is 2.76 in Parker and 2.69 in Quartzsite

We use www.gasbuddy.com while travelling to plan for refueling.

Yes we alsolearned the hard way, we try to avoid fueling up in Ca if we can help. They also have so many different fuel requirements plus now the added diesel fuel tax.

If you come into Parker from Needles don't stop at the first station you come to. Drive a few blocks and fill up at Terribles, it's a lot cheaper. As someone also mentioned if you cross the river on the interstate from Needles there is a Pilot, Loves, and another truck stop. All have better prices than Parker.

Clutch,
Wow! Terribles must have changed their pricing policy. With that new station prices were about the highest around. We've found the smaller station about 2 blocks east of the Terribles to have some of the best prices. However for a year or so Quartzsite has actually had the cheapest prices around.

Does anyone know if the new WalMart Superstore has fuel and if so how is it price wise?

Thanks,
HamRad

The station (Super Fuels) that is south of Terribles (on 95) has the best prices in Parker. $2.61 for diesel. WalMart does not have fuel. It is a small superstore.
Happy trails......................

Super Fuels does not have ULSD in the pumps that are for trucks and RV's, they only have it on one pump under the canopy which is hard to get to when you are hooked up to the Montana.

Sorry, we have not used that station while hooked up. But we see lots of RVs there all the time. We use either diesel - our TV is a 2006.

We haven't had any trouble under the canopy at Super Fuels but then we weren't looking for that one pump with the ULSD either. I guess it really wouldn't matter for us as we will fuel up in Quartzsite where it is cheaper.

One of the advantages of a larger fuel tank is that you don't have to stop in places like Needles. With the OEM tank (26gal) we were stopping every couple hundred miles.

The canopy is high enough, it is just the hassle of getting to the diesel pump with all the other vehicles there gassing up. It is a very busy gas station and is not very large as the newer ones are. Hopefully they will start having the ULSD diesel in the outer pumps that are easier for the RV's to get to.

Doug,
By outer pumps do you mean the ones out back that I didn't know about for many years?

HamRad, there are actually three Terribles on that corner. The one by the carwash has diesel and lower prices than the Chevron pumps that are in the front of the building. Different prices on each side of the new building. The other Terribles is the old AM Pm on the other side of the street. The prices there vary also. No Diesel there.

I do not use the Super Fules Station for several reasons. A couple of mechanics in the area have advised me to get my diesel elsewhere. A friend had to change his fuel filters premaurely last year, he was a Super Fuel costumer. One plugged up fuel filter costs a lot more than the 1 or 2 dollars one might save on a fill up.

Prices off the interstate in Quartzsite are definately cheaper. It seems however that the places with the best price are also very crowded and to me are not worth the wait and the hassle.

Clutch,
Thanks for the additional information about the Terrible fuel stations. We saw the advertised prices on the car wash side of things and knew that the Super Fuels station was much cheaper so did not actually enter. I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle fueling up in the car wash Terribles.

There is always a line to get into the Super Fuels station. We've fueled up at the Super Fuel for about 5 years in a row. Last year we waited until we got to Q because we had reports of cheaper fuel there. I would think that if the Super Fuel station was pumping dirty fuel that there would be little to no traffic at their site. It doesn't take but a few dirty fill ups to tarnish a station and reduce the traffic.

As it stands now we'll be fueling up again this year in Q because fuel is cheaper there.

Thanks again for the info.
