Santa Rosa CA area RV Park?

We need to be in Santa Rosa area in October for an extended stay. I am not having any luck trying to secure a site using the web for my 5er. We do not have to be in Santa Rosa, but within 10 or so miles away would be ideal. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello:
There is not much in Santa Rosa, CA. You can try the Sonoma County Fair Grounds which just remodeled their facility. Or you can try Wine County RV park in Windsor, CA which is only a few miles north of Santa Rosa. There is also a KOA in Petaluma, CA. which is south. Not much else I would recommend and I live is SR. Hope this helps.

Mike & Amy and Denmen,

Windsor or Petaluma would be fine, I am even willing to be further out from there. I read several reviews about the KOA in Petaluma, there were those who thought it was great and others who thought it was terrible...go figure. The problem I had with it was the price.

The one in Windsor looks ok if you judge by the website, but there was a misspelling. :-))

I will contact them and find out if they give a long term price.

Thanks again for your help.

We "lived" in the Petaluma KOA for more than 2 years while I was working in San Rafael. It is a bit pricey but a very nice park. When we moved south a bit to San Jose we found similar and higher prices. It is the bay area which is pricey period. There are lots of trees in the park so if you go there, watch your roof and keep it swept off. People were great. We loved Santa Rosa and went there to shop and dine. We looked a lot for other places and did not find anything that was decent. There is a park in Novato but it does not compare. The Petaluma KOA is on the north side of town and you can get to Santa Rosa via a back road which keeps you off the crowded 101 Hwy.

Sue,
That just tells me when to listen to experience and not to someone who tried something for a night. Someone on a different forum said they did not like that KOA. Glad to hear that you were there quite a while, and you know the real scoop.

Do you know if they discount for long term? I know I am asking the forbidden question for a KOA campsite, but I am planning on being there at least 3 weeks, and will be coming back there often. My brother lives in Santa Rosa.

That backroad you are talking about is the Old Redwood Highway I assume, and that is a perfect location. Last time I was there, without 5er, stayed in Windsor, there are a couple of listings for RV Parks there, but the information is real poor on the web. Windsor would be a real good location too.

Thanks for the recommendation, I will sure check into it.

Robbie

No it is not the Old Redwood Highway. I can't remember the name but I'll do some research for you and come up with the name tomorrow. They did have a rate for monthly but I don't know if there was a weekly rate. We stayed at a KOA in Williams, AZ and they had pay for 6 get 7th free. There is also the KOA discount card which helps. This is a very large park and I guess it depends on the site you get whether you are happy or not. We were always in the "Monthly" section.

That road is Stonypoint Rd. I knew it had an unusual name but couldn't think of it. It runs along side the campground and goes all the way into Santa Rosa. Beautiful drive. We loved that area and if we were going to stay in Calif. we probably would settle there but we want out of this state. Just paid $900 to register the Monty and the truck for another year. I hope it is the last time.

Yes, I found Stonypoint Rd and KOA on the map. I will get in touch with them and see what their monthly rates are that time of the year. It is such a beautiful place for us too, hard to believe that there aren't more quality RV Parks.

You should move to Washington. :-) My plates for the Monty were $78, and the truck was $93. No state tax.

Thanks so much for the information.

Land prices here in Sonoma County is very high. The Windsor RV park is going to be houses in the near future.

Doug & Sharon

Last time we were there, we stayed at the Worldmark in Windsor on Shiloh Rd, real nice place, we own a timeshare with Worldmark. We bicycled through downtown Windsor, they were doing tons of reconstruction, guess property values are getting up there, and unfortunately RV land is to valuable.

Still no concrete place to stay yet. The best so far is the KOA in Petaluma, but think they wanted $700 a month. Will keep looking.

So, Doug & Sharon, don't you think it is time for you to buy one of those little vineyards?..........and turn it into a RV Park?

You might also consider Casini's Family Campground on the Russian River. It is about 30 miles from SR. The setting is very pretty. It is one of our favorite places.

bob n pam,

Thanks, I'll look into it. 30 miles is a bit far, but at this point, all sites are a possibility.

Robbie, FYI Casini's is in Duncan Mills, CA if you're looking it up in a campground book.
