I have a ??? about axels

I'm getting some new bushings and bolts for the springs on our 05 Monty 3400rl & I asked about axel weight.
Looking on the axel there is a sticker and it has a Dex#53573 al;ong with order # 809462-1 and D60-8.
My bolt patern is 8 lug nuts and the axel diameter is 3"
The placard on the Monty is stamped with a GAWR each axel 6000lbs and GVWR 13960 lbs . I'm sure this weight was before the generator, 2nd air conditioner, and CareFree awnings were added. Then you add everything you pack for going south for a few months and it is way above the 1396 lbs.
So what weight axels do I really have. I was told that the 3" axels were 8000lbs, and that differs then the placard.
kind of confusing.

You have 6,000 lb., 8 lug axles. Is your GVWR 1396 or 13960? The GVWR is the maximum that Keystone feels the trailer can weigh. The generator, air conditioner and anything else you have added reduces how much you can put in it.

The "D60-8" stamped on the axle is the code for the 6,000 lb. axle and is consistent with the weight placard. The " GVWR 1396 lbs" portion confuses me. GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating - which is the maximum weight of the trailer. That number should be at least 5 digits and in the ballpark of 14,000 lbs. I do remember the 2006 3400's being the last of the 6K axles (subsequent years have 7K axles) and a lower cargo capacity. Is there a Vehicle Cargo Capacity Rating (VCCWR), or something similar in wording, value anywhere? Sometimes it is on a sticker inside a kitchen cabinet? 1396 seems a touch low for cargo capacity but I know this model wasn't rated for a lot of weight (Richfaa has one of these as I recall).

According to what I just found a 3" axel is 6000-7200# weight rating
Guess I will have to run it thru the scale the next time I get it hooked up to see what it weighs.
thank you
You can also tell the weight capacity of the axle by measuring the diameter of the axle. Here is a list that will show the axle weight capacity based on the axle diameter:

Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter

Actually the 5280, 6000 and 7000 lb axles are all 3" in diameter. The difference is the wall thickness. That is hard to discern from the outside.

X2. As previously stated Keystone put 6,000# axles on until around 2006 then went to 7,000#. 8,000# is not an option at this time with Keystone.

Don't forget the pin weight carried by the truck and is not on the RV axles.

From things I read here, I assumed I had 6000 lb. axles. (2006 2980 unit) But I am pretty sure I was under the unit greasing wet bolts and notice something that said 5000 lb. Am I mis-remembering or could this be true?
p.s. I think I am still under 10000 axle weight (minus the hitch) when I weighed.

Just for reference, our 2010 2955RL still had only 6000 Lb axles.

Late 2007 3400 7,000 Lb. Axles.

Most likely the axles are the "D52" stamped ones which means they are rated for 5200 lbs. The 29xx series has lower rated axles due to its lighter weight.

If you give Dexter a call with those numbers on the axle, they will tell you in a heart beat exactly what size and rating it is.

We have an '06 3500RL which is similar to the '06 3400RL (just a different floorplan). The GVWR is 14,040, the axles are 6,000 rated meaning the remaining 2,040 is intended to be carried at the pin.

The real life weights for my rig are 13,500 Gross weight, 2,600lbs at the pin leaving 10,900lbs over the axles. Note all numbers fit the axle ratings just fine. This all changes when the tanks are full, therefore I ensure my tanks are virtually empty before getting on the road.

Since your rig has more stuff like the 2nd A/C, and a generator, you can't carry as much junk as I do since you are probably closer to your GVWR of 13,960 (80 lbs less than my rig). I would guess the rig label is correct that you have 6,000 lb axles.

Just back from Goshen and axle replacement. The three axles from dexter are the 6750 Lb 3 inch axle tube with .250 wall tube thickness, the 7000 Lb 3 inch axle tube with .328 wall thickness and the 7200 lb axle with 3 inch axle tube with .380 wall thickness.
8000 lB axles have a axle tube 3 1/2 inch and will not fir the springs. The 7200 Lb axle was a special econo axle and because of it the hub mount flange is diffrent than the other axles, so IF you ever wanted to change to electric over Hydraulic, you can't get hub face plates to fit it because it was a special build.
My take on it would be to swap out the axles to 7,000 Lb ( use the old hub faces and just replace the spindle tube Save Money)and the springs to 4,000 Lb.
Call Motrailer in goshen and talk with them. They did mine and can get you set up perfect with peace of mind>
