I've read a little about the WaterKingTV USA water softener in numerous rving magazines and was wondering if anyone with MOC has one and if they really work! Also does it use 110 power to work or how does it work? There doesn't seem to be any information on this except that it uses radio frequency waves to soften the water

and in any pictures of the unit there are no cords. If anyone here knows anything about this unit could you fill me in on it? Thanks in advance!

I do not know the product you are refering to, but if they say it uses RF it then must use power, if no cord or batteries, I would be very suspicious...!!!

Rondo, I went on the website for Water King and checked it out. You list it as a "TV" unit, it's actually an "RV" unit. Yes, it does require power. It lists a 120volt to 9 volt transformer as part of the equipment. It does say it uses variable frequency radio waves. I don't know how that works, but there are a lot of things today that defy normal explanation. I suspect that it may use a technology similar to the "lithotripsy" that is used to blast kidney stones (don't ask how I know) to modify the structure of "hardness" in water. I know a chemical engineer and I'll ask him if he's heard anything about this. It does say it has a 100 day money back guarantee with it. Not cheap though, at close to $400 including shipping. Plastic pipes are not prone to minerals building up, so the only savings I can see would be on the water heater and deposits on the fixtures. Is it worth it? That is a personal question. But, you've got my curiosity up on this thing.

Rondo,if you,re looking for soft water forget it.I used a salt softener in the past then switched to the waterking due towhat I thought would be easier set up and so on. It does use 110v with a transformer,and comes with brass quick connectors.The DW complains that she can't get any suds in her dish water or in the washer.I talked to the guy on the phone and he said they tested it at Quartsite and it worked good.Well I'm in the Phoenix area that has very hard water and the only thing I see is that it leave water spots as bad as before.Yeh,you can drink the water from the faucet but you sure don't get the soft water feeling when taking a shower.Would I buy another one, don'tknow it is convient.You do have a 100 day return if it don't work for you. I know what you mean about being a little apprehensive on this deal, that's why I posted this thread!

Mike thanks a lot! This is exactly what I was looking for. I needed someone that actually has one and what they think about it! I'm really leary about this deal and since they also have several for the stick I'm even more skeptical. It seems to me this is relatively the same thing as using magnets put around the gasline to make the molecules straighten out and you get better mpg out of your gas or diesel. Yup, and I can break the three minute mile at my age!

Thanks to all that have responded and I'm now going to pass on this tool box with an transformer and some brass connectors in it with or without a 100 day return policy!

Dick I highly doubt if it will fix those connections. I'm home here in Omaha now and hope to put the new connectors on the cable ends and see if that will make any difference. Hope you had a good trip down SW!! Hope you can make it up to the MOC Central Plains Regional Rally this July too!

We hope we can, but we may be in trouble on that one. We took a camp host position at the local COE lake for the summer so we'll have to see if we can get time off.

Update on this item; I spoke with the water specialist guy I know, a chemical engineer. He calls BS on this. The only way you can get "soft" water is with a chemical (ion) exchange with the respective components. That said, he says that there is technology that uses electricity, not to soften water, but to reduce corrosion. The Navy uses it on ships, to reduce the corrosive effect of salt water. But it has nothing to do with softening anything. IF that is what Water King is doing, the only thing I can see they are protecting is the water heater, most everything else is plastic. And most heaters have an anode in them to protect the heater anyway. So, I would keep my money and use it for something necessary, like FUEL for the TV!!!!

Thanks for the info Terry! I had a feeling it was to good to be true! I think if I'm going to get a water softener for next years "Snowbird" trip it will be one that I use table salt in and it hooks right into the line either before the filtering process or after! Thanks again for checking with your chemical engineer buddy. I've also talked to one of my friends that is on his way back from down South and he has told me the same thing! I'll save that $400 and put it towards something really useful like fuel or maybe a nice new set of vents or something like that!
