BBC Documentary......Nov 30 in the UK
I just found this in a google search:

For those of you who attended the 2011 Quartzsite Circling of the Montanas and those of you who missed it..... There was a crew filming a documentary for BBC, it's due to air soon and is called "Ghost Riders". Whether we are in it remains to be seen....I'm trying to find out, so stay tuned.....
"Writer and presenter Richard Grant argues that an enduring “nomadism” is at the heart of the United States of America, and is the key to understanding its culture and history, in Ghost Riders. This is a documentary about people who won’t settle down. Grant argues that the best place to be if you won’t settle down is America, where there is plenty of space to just keep going."
UPDATE FROM THE PRODUCTION TEAM: The BBC have not given us a broadcast date yet, but it should be, we hope, some time in October.
I'll keep you posted!

Your post is sort of spooky! I was, just this evening, thinking of this very issue. Thank you for posting. I'll be looking for it. Any idea of what channel it will be on? On DirecTV we have a BBC type channel. I do not watch it often. I'll try the SEARCH feature on the DTV to see if it shows up. Thanks again and hope you are settling in to your new home. Hi - I am presuming a typo on your part for the date of the filming for the BBC. We were there and your date indicated 2010 but it was actually filmed at 2011.
We look forward to seeing the results eventually. If you ever hear of a "date" for broadcast here in the US would love to hear of it. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Re: the scary stuff, life is not fair to all is it??
Re: slab city near Niland California, it is very dis-concerning, we drove through a section of it, did not stop, did not feel comfortable, but, in hind sight, I have to say, at least they have a place to live, free of rent, even if free of ALL utilities as well. I imagine a number of them are homeless, except for what they have managed to salvage and take to the slab cities. I would bet that a number of the residents have serious health issues, emotional issues, how sad. There but for the grace of God go I.
And, Salvation Mountain is there, and while it is still there, I encourage all to visit. The future is in question, Leonard Knight, the genius of the true American folk art of Salvation Mountain is failing quickly, and, his true friends are not sure it will remain after he is gone. There are a lot of facets to the story, lots of people want it to remain, lots want it to be long gone, some have even tried to burn it down (we saw the results of that during our all too short visit there last winter).
Yes, CountryGuy and I were deeply touched by our visit to the slabs and Salvation Mountain, I wrote a 3 part series about it on my blog last winter. One of my photos of Leonard was chosen to be used on a web site supporting a film documentary of Leonard's life.
Amazing how a couple of hours can leave such a long lasting, deeply moving, emotional, soul wrenching memory.
Sorry, I believe I have just hijacked this thread. SIGHHH

Interesting report. His conclusions are pretty good. (1) All kinds of folks from all kinds of backgrounds become nomads. (2) We do it because we can.

Doug, I think you should sponsor a movie evening and show the video on your TV outside using your batteries!!!!!!!! Then you could have everone line up for autographed copies of DVDs that you make from YouTube........ Sounds like fun.
