Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Will there be any problems towing the Montana across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge? What is the toll? We may be traveling from the Washington area to Dover. One option is the bridge, the other is I-95 around the bay; a couple extra hours.

Did it a number of years ago with a Pop-Up, not sure I'd want to do it with a High Profile 5er. Maybe someone will chime in who has.

We took our Montana over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel a couple of years ago. The toll was $23.00. We traveled from the Virginia Beach Area and did not have any problems.

We have also used the bridge, although pretty tight when running along side the 18 wheelers.

Before you go through the Tunnel you must stop and have your tanks off. If you go through without stopping no matter how heavy the traffic you will be stopped. They will stop all traffic even bumper to bumper traffic and check you.

Thanks for all the advice; sounds like it is not a problem. I just wanted to make sure there were no surprise restrictions. The tolls are always a surprise for us westerners; but no way around them.
This is the route my computer picked; Woodbridge VA to Dover DE:

Good point on the propane. They stopped us and asked if it was turned off, did not check, took us at our word (was off).

We went over the Chesapeake Bay bridge in 1998 with a motorcycle pulling a camper and the toll was $21 then, $7 per axle!!! Looks like the toll has been reduced somewhat, you had 4 axles for $23.................

Unless they counted the axles wrong it was 23.00. At that time we had a Montana 3400.

If im not mistaken the toll is for both ways and they charge per axle.So if going over the bridge towards the eastern shore and the beach areas of Maryland,Delaware,Virigina thats when you pay going back dont have to stop for tolls. Also Google tolls of Chesapeake Bay Bridge and its broke down for ya for prices.

Without question I'd go through the Bay Bridge Tunnel and bypass Washington. I went to Fredericksburg, VA a couple of times this month and the traffic on I-95 north of Richmond, VA was terrible. It took about 1 1/2 hours to go about 40 miles.

I'm not familiar with the area; what tunnel? Is there a tunnel associated with the bay bridge; highway 301? Does the map I posted about five post up look like a good route?
Thanks

My mistake -
Based on other comments, I thought you were coming from the southern part of Virginia and the Bay Bridge Tunnel, which takes you from Norfolk to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, would have been a good route to take.

No such thing as a "good route" in that area. I -95 from the NC border north is the one road I avoid if at all possible.

Hi Scott,
We go over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge all the time, its an easy drive over the bridge.
Last time was in April of this year and it costs $12.00 using EZ Pass.

Understand. We were in Virginia last April, I-95 between Richmond and Washington was a parking lot.
