Just to add my two cents. I can't speak for Ford or Chevy diesels but the service life of the Cummins engine in the 2005 Dodge is ~300,000 miles before rebuild. The first service(other than oil and filters) is at 150,000 and that's a valve adjustment. Speaking of oil changes the interval for heavy use is 7500 miles and light use 15000 miles. If you plan to hold onto the truck for a long time this factors in.
