Spending quality time under my truck.

Not being a sports fan, I took advantage of the relatively nice weather today and installed a set of Firestone Ride Rite (model 2330) air helper springs under my 2001 F250. Since we have a 2002 3575RL with one of the heavier king ping weights in the Montana line, I wanted to do something to help out the rear suspension. When we pulled it home from N. Carolina to Illinois last November, we bottomed out the rear on a couple of the nastier bumps. On top of that, the Ford twin I beam front end tends to get a little squirrely when they squat in the back.

Once the weather gets better in late spring, I want to install one of the in-cab inflation controls.

The shocks are also pretty trashed (60,000 miles) so I'm also going to install a set of Rancho shocks that will also be in-cab adjustable. I have some high hopes that this will tame the ride a bit to be more enjoyable.

Eric, I had the Firestone airbags on our '99 F350 and it does make a significant difference. I just had them installed on our '05 F250 because I didn't get the Camper Package that adds another leaf to the springs. We do have the tow package and the 10,000 lb GVWR package but without that extra leaf we got just a little squat. This truck is a 4x4 and does not have the I-beam frontend like the '99 did so the squat made a just barely noticeable lightness in the frontend. I could feel it just slightly in windy situations so we decided to go with the airbags. Haven't towed with the bags on this truck yet but I'm expecting the same improvement we saw with the '99. The inside controls and gauge are really nice when you're on concrete interstates and want to tune out some of that herky jerky motion those roads tend to pass on.
