Etrailer Brakes
Has anyone out there used the etrailer brake backing plates assembly???
The Monty needs new brakes and they seem to have the best price on them and a lot of good reviews..
Thanks.

They are listed as TruRyde brake assembly...No word of Dexter mentioned on the info for this assembly..
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't aware somebody else was making those brakes although I shouldn't be surprised. Are they significantly cheaper than Dexter? If so and they have good reviews I would probably give them a try.

I took a few minutes and looked at the options on etrailer. Noticed they do offer the Dexter Never Adjust brake sets at a larger cost than those you mentioned. If it were my decision, I would go with the Dexters or bite the bullet and convert to disc. I am certainly not made of money, but would never cut corners on braking safety.

As long as you're in the "looking" mode ... try http://www.easternmarine.com/Electri...ke-Assemblies/. They have sales on Dexter brake assys from time to time that beat about anyone else out there ... shipping is reasonable and quick. I got the 7K never adjust back in March for $53.99 each. I believe "never adjust" is a bit of a stretch in advertising, but with minimal maintenance they've worked well for me. I'd stick with a brand name brake for my fiver if I were you ... it just isn't worth saving $25.

You'll be happy with Eastern Marine. They've done me right on several things.

I don't remember if they came with new nuts but I just used the old ones. Did the swap out in about an hour each side. Repacked bearings while I had them off

I used the existing hardware. I might suggest soldering the wiring and using shrink tube with liquid tape dolloped on each end.
