Mega Cab with Mor/ryde pin box problems.

I have a 2012 Ram Mega Cab 3500 Dually with a 2012 Montana and super glide hitch. My problem is I have a Mor/ryde pinbox that is to long. When I turn it well contact the inside of my truck bed rails. Mor/ryde makes a shorter version. But not sure if I can then hook up to the camper with the tailgate down without it contacting the camper. If anyone has had this same problem can you please assist me.

Thanks in advance,
Travis Duhon

Raise the fifth wheel plate 1 bolt hole, or lower Moryde box 1 bolt hole, maybe, IMHO.

That's been done already as far rasing it. My dad has the same truck and hitch but he has a Lippert on his 08' Montana. The problem is I'm home in Louisiana and the camper is at a dealer in TN and they are no help what so ever. I'm trying to figure this out so when I get to TN I can leave and go to NC for work. I don't want to have to wait around for days waiting on something else. Thanks for your repost.

Since the pinbox normally clears the naked side rails, I am guess you have a tonneau cover of some type. Are the rails for the cover what are hitting the pinbox?

In either event, a few of us have trimmed off the back edge of the pinbox. I believe you can make a 45° cut starting about 2" from the rear of the pinbox and create enough clearance. This won't affect the load capacity of the hitch. Someone posted pictures before. You might try to find them with the Search tool

I had the same problem, and used a grinder to remove some of the rear corners.

This was also a documented problem with GMs. The distance between the bed rail (side walls) is less than the distance from the center of the king pin to the back corners of the pin box times two. Trying to raise the from of the Monty to be able to clear would result in an extremely nose high condition. I was just extremely careful and avoided full or near full 90 degree turns. If we had kept our Monty I would have had the corners of the pin box cut off, won't take much.

Not sure what's different, but we've never had this problem. We did lower the pinbox and raise the hitch early on but I can't see how that would have kept us from having the issue. Could it be that dually rails are higher?

The problem is the new trucks 2012 and 13's boxes are just a little bit deeper(about an inch to an inch and a half) than the previous years. I had the company that reinstalled my hitch in the TV raise the total hitch up as high as it would go. I've had no problems so far and I've got the rails for the tonneau cover also, so I'm good! One does have to watch if you are backing into a spot and and it is at an angle too. I'm OK but watch because of the unevenness of the ground and etc.

Ok, didn't realize there was a difference between 2011 and 12. Hard to believe they moved them even higher. I have to use a step stool to see in my tool box as it is, and I'm not a small guy.

My truck is a 2011, not the 2011.5 and my box measures 20 1/4 inches tall. My hitch is all the way up, so I am a little nose high, but not much.

Still had to grind the corners off to prevent MORE scrapes on the top of the bed rail.

We had the same problem with our F350 2008... We notched the rai where the hitch was hitting....not a major now unless you gotta turn 90 degrees....takes about 40 seconds with a hacksaw.....

I wonder if the new Dodges have a deeper bed than previous models. That is what happened to the Chevy. On the 08 Monty I had to nip the back corner of the pin box and this was the fix. On the 2010 Monty a shorter pin box was installed and it does not hit.
For the longer pin box the nip is a sure fix. I can't speak for what this might do to the Lippert warranty. You might do what you have to do. That is what a fab shop in Goshen advised me to do.
