Lock up Satelite Dish
Just got a new Winegard Pathway X2, with tri-pod mount, for satellite TV. Wondering about locking it when leaving the campsite. If so, what kind of cable, and where do you lock it to?

If they want it bad enough ... they'll take it. I bought a 5/8" coated cable 20' long with loops at both ends at Lowes along with a matched pair of padlocks. I loop it through the rear stabilizer leg and brace then padlock it ... then the other lock thru the loop on the X2 and into the loop on the cable end. This gives me enough length to get it away from the fiver for a clear shot to the satellites. I made a homemade round aluminum disk and old camera tripod to sit it on. It can be tethered to the ground with a stake. Some on the MOC have never secured theirs ... some of the places we go ... if it isn't bolted down ... it walks off. Our setup hopefully will slow them down enough to move on to the next victim.

I just tie a bicycle rope chain around one of the leveling feet and my X2. At least they will have to work for it to take it.

Same here. If you worry about this kind of thing you'll never enjoy camping. Very little theft in campgrounds.

We are Long timers and have been in scores and scores of campgrounds all over the country since 2006. The PT 50C hangs on the pedestal . We have not personally experienced theft of any kind .

I purchased a cable and lock for both the sat. and the bikes. Have only used them a couple of times, I guess I was bored and just needed something to do. One of the greatest things about people that RV is that they are good people and most will bend over to help you if you need it. I usually don't worry about things or even lock the RV when gone. Now I will say I had my dogs toy stolen one time, I guess the pets are another thing!! We believe an evil dog walked by and stole the toy, Animals!!

We do not use a lock. If you are worried, set it on your roof making it tougher to take.

Never locked ours. But now I have the traveler on the roof.
That said I have never had something stolen at an RV park.
I very seldom lock the rig when gone for the day. I am more careful about leaving the water on that locking the rig. But that is just me. I just can't be bothered being fearful all of the time.

I agree with the general idea that campgrounds as safe but I would think twice at a state park where there is day traffic
Just saying - different crowd

Have been full time since Sep 1, 2010 and most time pent in city, county, state, and federal campgrounds. NEVER a problem with theft and never lock anything except main door if we leave the park for a few hours.

I guess it depends on local and your use of the RV whether fulltime / long time or recreational RVing like us. We and friends like aquatic stuff like waterskiing, fishing, kayaking, knee boarding and camping near the water ... apparently we travel amongst clientele like twopetes mentioned. Being gone for half of a day to leave a pair of skis out, boogie board, trolling motor battery charger, extension cords, paddles, a $450 satellite dish, or a $350 Yeti cooler would sure be foolish. Day use people driving from the boat ramp by your pile of goodies only need about 20 seconds then they are miles down the road. Not being fearful nor dwelling on this at all ... just realistic. I sure miss my O'brien slalom ski that was resting under my fiver

I'm new to RVing so have no experience or guidelines on locking "stuff" down. In my other hobby (astronomy) folks leave literally thousands of $$$ of hardware laying on tables and Pelican cases out in the open all week at conventions and star parties. Have heard almost nil of things growing feet. People drive back home and leave things laying around and it gets back to them if their name is on it. I did get a big chain and padlock for our Progressive EMP thing and if I had a portable dish, I would go by the surroundings. Just sayin.
