20,000 Miles - Montana Owners Club

Well almost! DW says we have towed the Montana 19,677 miles since it was new in Anchorage, Alaska. We started towing in May of '07.

Of course, the truck has many more miles than that. We do tend to stay longer at each spot than most, I think. How does this stack up with other fulltimers?

I have to say as a part timer, not very much! We got our Big Sky in November of 09, just before I retired. In the year and a half or so since we have already logged over 10,000 with our rig, and the most we have been out at one time has been 3 weeks.

For a full timer 20,000 is a lot of miles consistering a full timer will stay places longer for sight seeing and just enjoying life being in no big hurry!IMO

Hey, glad some one else is traveling in their coach. We are are at 21,367 miles in 2 and a half years on our Montana Mountanieer. Likewise our one big trip was to Alaska in that trip we did over 10K of towing. We are only part timers living in our coach about 4 to 5 months a year. The last 3 years the monty has spend the winter on the beach in Baja. The best part of this is the DW and I still love each other and the Monty.

Well, we are starting to slow down some obut in the five years we have been full-timers we have traveled 130,000 miles in our truck that was new the day we started out.. Close to 100,000 has been with the Montana on back.

We do not keep a mileage log and we are long timers not full timers although I think we are on the road more than some full timers. We pretty much use our trucks for towing only. Example
for the 6 months we were in Florida I put 1,123 miles on the truck and most of those were deliberate to keep things lubricated. Since we have been home in mid April I have driven the truck 315 miles.
truck # 1 the 05 Ford had 25K on it and the present 08 31K on it. Even a very conservative estimate of towing at @70% of the time would be nearly 40K miles. The longest trip this truck has taken solo was from Orlando, Fl to West palm beach, Fl.. round trip, one time..

We towed 20,000 miles in our first two years of fulltiming. Admittedly 15,000 was the first year when we went from San Jose, California to Homer, Alaska via Farwell, Texas and Utah. We also returned from Alaska back to San Jose via Chicago and Texas.

Last year we towed 5,000 miles but, this year we are already at 4,800 miles of towing.

We had our 07 3075 for three years before it got totalled and we had put just over 30,000 miles on it. Not to bad for people who were working full time for that whole time.

Now that we have a new '11 3400RL Hickory Edition and my sis has retired we'll see how the miles roll up. I am still working full time so that somewhat limits us.

Since we got it a month ago we have been to one rally (Lake Sis) and are going over to Ft. Bragg Sunday for a week than up to Emigrant Gap (CA) for a 4 day weekend over the 4th. Two weeks later we gp to South Lake Tahoe for a week, then over Labor Day weekend we go to the San Francisco Bay area for a reunion and two week later back to the same are for another reunion. Later in Sept. we go to Carmel, CA for a wedding.

After that we probably will lay low for a few months. Then the National Spring Rally in Jackson, CA and who knows what after that.

Well Phil, let me congratulate you and DW for your traveling record. You may keep accurate records better than some of us so I would only be estimating our mileage and then it becomes a fish story on my part. It is interesting to have seen you travel from Alaska some moments back and where you have been since then. May you both have many more safe miles ahead. I also believe part of that equation is you and DW doing it together.

Dennis, It does help that Cathy is also my best friend. We are so close we can answer questions together with the same response. It has been a wonderful experience so far. I have met so many folks that are envious of us for seeing the US as we do. We TRULY do have a beautiful AND unique country!!!!!

Since starting fulltime in 2004. Trailer 34369 miles (Hub odometer), Truck 131225 (plus dinner tonight) and 3540 hours.

Phil & Cathy, you asked how your mileage compares to other fulltimers' mileage. Our first year we put almost 30,000 on the Montana. First year. Then we slowed down. We took delivery of this Montana at the end of August 2006. My log shows we've towed it 27,777 miles. Like you two, we tend to stay longer in one place and try to really experience things most tourists never even know about. We're finding our current (temporary) mode of touring a section of the country while staying just one week per location is just moving too fast. We may slow it down and come back another time to see the rest. And, of course, we're adding many things to our 'next time' list. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your travels.

Adding up the miles we've put on our trucks since we started fulltiming the end of March 2003, it comes out to very close to 244,000 miles. That includes everything from towing to sightseeing to grocery runs. The 2007 Dodge has accumulated fewer miles since new the first of June 2007. It is just short of 62,000 miles. But for about 12 months of that time we had our car with us and drove the truck only to keep it lubricated, as Rich called it.

You need to get out more often. You've missed North Dakota.

I wholly agree with you regarding staying in one place longer. Many times, even a week is not long enough. I need to get Earlene to slow down. She's the go, go, go, go girl (not go go). We are going to miss BC this time, only because we both have some commitment schedules that we have to meet in September and October, and medical in August, so we will be headed East from Whidbey Island in two days. Since August of 08 we have 18,000 miles on the SOB, and for 2007/08 we had about 14,000 on the Monty.

We are just moving to fast. There is so very much to see in this great country of ours. Those that do not travel can not begin to imagine what they are missing.

Since we began our Journeys in the Montanna in March of 06 we have put only about 10,000 miles on the wheels but 4 years on the inside! We are considered long timers since we still have the stick house that my daughter lives in, but I can count on one hand the times we have been back in those 4 years. Since we work and travel we tend to stay in one place for a longer amount of time. We also travel w/a coleman pop-up that we use for touring the area around where we set up camp. As my grandson put it to a friend, "They live in the big camper and use the pop-up for when they really go camping!" It has been a wonderful experience and whereever we go the grandkids come to visit. They have chosen some of the areas they wanted to visit and we have tried to work in the area so they could come out and see the sites, they too, are well traveled.
