Make Sewer Boom like 2010's - Montana Owners Club

Have a 2008 Keystone Montana and would like to make a boom like comes standard on the 2010's. Seems simple, except for the rotating part that will allow this to turn in and out. Second is a secure attachment on the end that is easy to release from storage and swing out. Attached is picture from 201o, so give me some ideas?

Exactly what I needed to know. Now I can get to work. Since I am on vacation for a week, it will be awhile so keep ideas coming. I have WIFI here in Hatteras North Carolina so I check here once a day for fun.

I removed mine, personal preference.
There is no way you can use a clear elbow and you can only store 10 feet of hose in the tube. I don't like to store smelly hoses in the basement so I cut and installed a door in the lower panel for the hose and connections.

As delivered in the stock configuration, I agree with you Emmel, it IS fairly worthless. After some thoughts of removing mine, like you did, I read where someone had put on a longer tube to accommodate more hose. I went a few steps beyond that, and now have a useful apparatus.

My 14 feet of RhinoFLEX "smelly hose" is stored in the modified boom. I keep the rest of the well rinsed fittings, and another 15' hose for long runs, in a 5-gallon bucket in the generator bay or pick-up bed, depending on whether or not they have had a bleach rinse or not.

I agree, somewhat useless without the mod. I found the exact pipe at CW and just replaced it with a long enough piece to accomodate the Rhino 15' hose. I didn't have to mod the bracket or anything else since I only used enough pipe for the sewer hose to fit. The CW pipe came with fittings at both ends so I just cut the one end to legnth. I got a translucent 90 degree el at the sewer connection point from Rhino that replaces the clear elbow at the rig. (not quite as useful as the clear but works ok).

KTManics mod looks great....especially the decals! Nice touch.

KTManiac's mods look very well done and I'm sure it serves the purpose. Looking thru the pics, I didn't see a clear elbow, do you use one? After using the clear elbow I found out I was not getting my tanks, black tank, empty before.
I will admit I did not give the new boom enough use to condem or condone it and I did not try to alter it as KT did.
I do use the extra valve and then the clear turndown. Would like to figure out how to use both with the new boom setup.

For a gate valve at the end of your dump pipe, you will have to "hard plumb" one in. The boom will not work with the twist on type.

For the clear end, the RhinoFLEX has a translucent elbow on it. Not ideal, but you can tell if the water is clear as opposed to "brown".

I have thought of adding one of these to the very end of the hose before it turns down into the ground.

It would need some adapters and a short section of Rhino hose to work. Not sure if it would be worth the trouble though.

I'm not so certain that I want a crystal clear view of what is coming out of the black tank, if you know what I mean!

I prefer a gate valve and clear elbow as well. After reading this and several other "sewer boom" threads, we're following Robbie's lead and have ordered the Sewer Solution. I wish Montana had bolted the boom hardware to the frame, rather than welding it. I'll need to have the boom hardware removed by someone else. If you can handle a cutting torch and want to upgrade to the new hardware, let me know. Soon.

Take a close look at how that is welded on, it may only have short sections of weld. If so, it might be removed by cutting the welds with a grinder/cutter. I'm interested in the assembly if you remove it.

They aren't as fast as a cutting torch, but an electric pencil grinder with cut off wheels will remove the weld. Then smooth it up with a regular grinder/sander and don't forget to paint to prevent rust.

Thanks for all the ideas. I didn't get back to check on this until today. I still have mine attached, but I don't use it for anything at this time. I will consider some of your mods and maybe turn it into something useful.

We removed the boom "flex-hose" and added a twist-on gate valve. The Sewer Solution works very well. I think we'll keep the black tube for storage, but we need to find an oversized cap to close off the open end.
