Extended warranty

Hello Everyone, Well, we're parked near Dripping Springs, TX and loving this beautiful Hill Country and lovely weather (compared to WI -8 degrees when we left there). We're visiting our DD and doing some sightseeing while waiting for a tech to replace our hyd. pump motor. It's still under warranty, which brings up the question of extended warranties. Can any of you comment on which companies are good, bad, or are they necessary at all. I'm a handyman but don't have $4400 to shell out for a fridge or $600+ for a water heater. Your input is always helpful and appreciated.

Look at Good Sam first. We have had one on both our Montana's. We used it many times on our 06 3400 and we will be using the G.S on this 13 3402 as we have two leaking holding tanks. Would not leave home without one.

If you are a handy man there is nothing that you can't replace or fix on your camper. The 2 things you menchoned aren't likely to break. I would keep my money.

We are on our third Montana, and have never purchased an extended warranty. I am pretty handy, enjoy doing stuff, and have never had a problem I could not take care of myself or with the help of some other rver in the park. Most of the time, the most expensive part of a repair bill is the labor. So for us, we pass on them. In our many years of rving, the only appliance we have ever gone bad was an A/C and that was covered under manufacture warranty. If we ever do lose a major item, such as a refrigerator, I figure the savings from the insurance premiums I never signed up for will more than balance out. We spend 8-9 months out of the year in our rigs, so I shake them out pretty hard to take advantage of the keystone one year warranty. If you are not handy or do not want to tackle repairs, then an extended warranty is probably a smart choice for you.

I am also fairly handy and can probably fix most stuff on the RV......if it is in my back yard. I hae always had an extend warranty for those times I am on the road. I am also at the age that I either can't or don't want to mess with it other then picking up my phone and calling to have something fixed.......I agree with the GS plan.

If you are handy, save your money. I kinda enjoy fixing stuff and there is nothing complicated on these things. Yea a holding tank is a PITA to fix, but not hard. Plus your repair would probably be a better fix than just replacing the tank, as a example.

The China board in the frig, the Service Contract will want to go back with a factory board. You would replace it with a Dinosaur board.

The pump motor, It is probably a standard motor but when you buy it thru Lippert, you double the price. Again probably a made in China part.

It's really a toss up in my opinion. We have one, partly because I wasn't very familiar with repairing all the systems that this rig has compared to our TT. Also, parts of me don't always work either and if the rig and I have both gone bad at the same time that would be an issue. It used to be that you could put the money in the bank and let it grow and wait and see if you needed it. Now days the money in the bank won't keep up with inflation. If you do it, I agree with the GS choice. At least then there's another party you can go to in a dispute.

we are not handy and do not enjoy "fixing things" Our fridge failed in the 06 3400 .The replace price was over 1000.00 cost to us with the extended warranty 50.00. We had 5 holding tanks leak on the 06 3400 one replaced under warranty the other 4 on extended warranty.Cost to us 100.00. Cost of replacement over 1500.00. We have two leaking tanks on this 13 3402 cost to us will be the deductible. Time I spent repair.... zero. What ever is best for the individual.

I'm a Fulltimer with no Garage For me this is a No Brainer Yes on Extended Warranty like was said before if my fridge goes out 4K or like Rich holding tank failure, I do not have that kind of money sitting around , it only cost me a extra 15 bucks a month in my payments for the Warranty ,I'm a handy guy myself and will fix small things no problem,If big things happen like was said before make a call have somebody else handle it and continue on my Journey

Another vote for the Good Sam's extended warranty. As Bigskyjimmy said, only a few bucks extra per month on the payment and well worth it. Several BIG dollar items in the Montana that I would hate to have to choke up the cash for just out of the blue. $100 deductible at non Camping World service center or $50 deductible at Camping World. You can also get different levels of coverage. I'm pretty handy with the normal wear and tare items but don't have a clue what to do with HVAC, refrigeration or hydraulics, all high dollar items. We have wholesale Warranties which is a 7yr contract. Only used it once for a blown microwave. need to use it again when we get back for a faulty check valve in black tank flush. No access to valve which is typical Keystone. Paid $1120 for 7yrs and you can't buy it that cheap anymore. Don't know what it will cost when 7yrs runs out, but will be definitely more expensive. Might check into Good Sam or just forget it if too expensive.

Ours was a no brainer, since when it came to RV systems, I had no brain! We were told by Lazy Days that "everyone" bought 5 yr plans, since most of us trade at 5 years anyway. I bought a 7 yr plan, and am glad I did. While there are many things I have learned to fix, there are big ticket items I would have had to shell out for after the factory coverage was done. Things like the fireplace, one axle, and the microwave that just got replaced recently. More than paid for the premiums on this rig, but each one is different.

Our first interaction with the GS extended warranty was positive. We explained our two leaking tank issue and that we wanted to take it back to our selling dealer in Ohio for repair. The rep advised us that he was opening a claim for us and it would remain open for 90 days. Our appointment at Town and Country Rv in Ohio is for May 6th. The dealer will determine the cause of the problems and the cost to repair or replace, all the information is on file in the open claim. We had no problem with that.

Picking up our first Montana on Friday. I am assuming Pete's will recommend the Easycare extended warranty. I have a quote from Good Sam for comparison.

Any feedback about EasyCare? Seems GS has a decent reputation.

The thing is, the 15 bucks a month goes on after the warranty expires...
