Chinese tires

Took a walk thru the park this morning and two different rigs had substantial damage from tires. One was a Montana and the other a Cyclone.

Just got the estimate on mine yesterday. $2000 for the damage I sustained. Insurance approved it, but I have a $500 deductible.

Friends don't let friends drive ANY travel trailer with manufacturer supplied ST tires!

Rainer, you need to contact Goodyear Customer Service and tell them you have the tire carcass. There have been many on the forum who were fortunate in that Goodyear paid for the repairs to the camper caused by the "Marabombs" Definitely won't hurt to check with them.

Wonder when those "new" airless tires are going to be available for our rigs. Saw an interesting article on Hancook's on yahoo a couple of days ago that showed the prototypes. Here is the article:

cool, Bingo... Companies are rolling these out and have been for at least 3 years. I wonder why the hold up? There's a lot of money made on pneumatic tires. I wonder if this is the reason on the delay - loss of revenue for some side-companies.

psomers... that's the plan on ST tires, unfortunately many aren't convinced that manufacturing quality systems are good enough out of the factory and since in most trailers people aren't in them, many of us think the quality is suspect no matter what is designed.

Sure, there are some that can say with lack of use, owners don't care for them as much as they should, but someone like myself, who parks the rig on the driveway where I check the tires periodically even when not in use to ensure inflation pressure, I had a Mission Tire that nearly exploded on me, so until ST quality is better, the LT will often be a suitable alternative. Silly me, then I switched to Marathons because at the time I didn't know of their reputation, but they are holding up well, until this year when they are aging out. But I watch these very well and even closer than the Missions (who by the way is out of business - I'm guessing, their quality was very poor and the reputation, too. Goodyear with its deeper pockets and tire family seem to be fairing better, but they have had their issues with the Marathon.

While my Discount Tire dealer will not allow me to put an LT on my rig, there are plenty of other dealers who will. Fortunately, I am hoping this time to switch to Maxxis STs which have a pretty good reputation and have a set at Discount Tire priced out pretty good - I will probably buy some beginning of next year (no long trips planned and money is tied up for other things right now).

I think you will be happy with Maxxis M8008 ST tires. In our camping club most have the Maxxis. My previous 5th wheel had Maxxis tires when traded and were 4 years old. They had trips to Nova Scotia, Mackinaw, Mi and about a dozen 500 mile round trips to Gulf Shores.
Don't think they are US made but not also not China.

Hi, new guy here. Tomorrow, DW Kathi and I are going to look at a 2012 Montana 343RL and you can bet that I will be checking out the tires on this trailer before we take it home.

When I went to Discount Tire and told the guy I wanted new tires for the trailer, he pulled up several on his computer. I said I want XPS Ribs. He said "Oh, you want the best. I can have them tomorrow." And he did.

What I find funny....well it ain't really funny I guess, just kind of sad, but I was looking at Redwood RV's site and they advertise Goodyear Super E tires?????? Yep, just a fancy name for Marathons lol lol....not sure if that is how they advertised Marathons in the past or if it is just a marketing ploy for Redwood so they don't have to say that word Marathons.....

I went to the RV storage lot the other day and there was a new (used) TT that had pulled into the space next to us. The rig looked older but well cared for. Just for S&Gs I decided to check out his tires. The mfg date was 2003! Don't seem to read enough here about tire age...maybe we should include that in our tire discussions?
