3120RL closet door latch

Exciting day.
We took delivery on our 2019 20th Edition 3120RL.
Our previous 5th wheel was a 2012 3100RL

This is my second (of many) request for suggestions/help.

The bedroom left (driver side) door has its latch inside the closet. In order it use the latch you must open the right side door and squeeze by all your item on the closet rod to reach the latch.

Really??!!!!

Has anyone relocated that latch or installed something different to keep the door closed while traveling?

thank you
-ed

Ed,

Have not had an issue with the latch. Actually we don't open the left door that often. You could always leave it unlocked.

Ours is the same way. Maiden voyage starts Thursday. If you move it to the outside you may want to add a stop so the right door will not hit it and get dinged.

Proof that the "engineer" has never been in a 5th wheel, let alone use one.

Cannot leave it unlatched going down the road.

Mine is the same. Take a look at the high quality work they did installing that latch! We just live with it; not bad. I would latch it while traveling; don't want to break those mirror doors.

We have a 3720RL so I don't know if ours is the same, but it probably is. Our problem is that the latch you like that's on the outside pulled the wall it's attached to apart and I had to rebuild it. Staples instead of screws. Before anyone says anything about the way they are built now, I also had to rebuild that same wall for the same reason on our 2010.

Ours is the same, it is cumbersome but that is my side of the closet, I'm not in and out of it as much as Lisa.

Jeff,

I have several years of RVing under my belt and have camped in my current rig for over a year. I do not have an issue with the latch as designed, I like the idea it is hidden and don't have an issue unlocking it when I show up somewhere and not locking it again until leaving. We all have different preferences and ideas.

It is a little unfair to say the engineer that designed it has no hands on experience when you know nothing about him or her and simply don't like the approach taken. Please modify yours if you don't like it, we are free to make our own choices. We all use our rigs differently and what works for one may not work for everyone.

We haven't taken ours on a long trip yet, but I do agree with the silliness of the latch. We intend to use the age old method of installing a proper length "stick" or wood dowel in the track to keep the door from sliding during travel.

Zack,

If the engineers actually used these I would bet a lot of the mods we are making we would not have to. You are right I do not know if they have any hands on experience.
However given some of these designs, I do not see proof otherwise.

My old Arctic Fox had a hole in the bottom track and you installed a pin with a ring on it and when you arrived just pull the pin out.

We moved ours to the outside wall.

Jeffba is correct. I did what Gary-Alberta did, cut dowel to keep door closed while in transit.

We had the same problem in our 3791RD. First trip out, first stop- it had torn away from the wall and pulled the trim in the front where it locks and all the way to the rear trim. They tried to fix it..did an ok job on the back but front kept popping out every time you tried to lock it. They didn't know what else to do so we just took it home and hubby fixed it right. Now we add a tension bar in the track just to take some of the weight off of the door pulling on the lock. No problems since. I agree the other door lock is a pain though. We generally just keep it locked for that very reason!

We have same unit. We put a strap with snap at the top corner of that door and snap it when traveling. Works great, kinda like the one on the bedroom door.

Not familiar with this model, but sounds like you're dealing with a sliding door. We had an issue with an SOB in that the latches would dig your arm when you reached in the closet. I saw a tip from Mark Polk and ordered these latches from Amazon to replace the OEM. they did the trick. We also used a tension shower rod in the track as a back up.

These worked great. You just flip them and leave them up when you're parked and flip them down for travel.
