AC BTU'S?

We have a pamplet about our AC, but it doesn't give the BTU's. It's the original AC that came on the RV when we bought it. We want to add another AC to the front of the RV and need an idea of the size to get. This back one just doesn't cut it in these HOT AS H--- Texas summers. Thanks.

If I was putting a new one in the rear I'd get a 15,000 BTU one.

The original one that came with the trailer was 15,000 and the bedroom has a 13,500. This is what came from the factory.

I suspect that your original is 15. There s a data plate under the shroud. If that is the case, you should add a 13.5.

You don't say what year your unit is but my 2004 unit came with a 13500 BTU as the original. We were having problems with it so I had a new one put in and it is a 15000. If I would put an A/C in the front I'd be putting a 13500 and make sure it is a low profile! If yoou put a regular A/C in the front you may find it makes the Monte pretty high in measurement and you may have problems with clearance under bridges, in tunnels and etc.

Depending on the rig and the year. It was confusing knowing which was the main unit and the secondary on the 3750. It was different in 2011 (our main is in the front - which is actually the middle). Our second ac is in the bedroom and I believe that both are 15,000 btu models but I have never checked. I suppose the only way to check is to pull the cover off?

We have 15,000 front and rear, and have experienced no clearance issues on the road.

I added a second couple years ago. Following advice from this forum I went with the 15,000. Thought was if main went out the second unit could cool the rig better if it was bigger. I also stayed away from the low profile as the regular unit was only 2" higher than the maxaire vent cover I was removing. I have a little smaller unit than some on this forum but with the reg height 15,000 BTU I'm still only 12'10" high. Jim
P.S. adding that second unit was one of the best mods we have made to the 5'er.

The only reason to go with a 13,500 is if you plan on running an air conditioner with a smaller generator. Many generators will not operatate a 15,000. The 13,500 is a little cheaper, but the difference is not that much. As you said in the South you need all the BTUs you can get.

Those who are recommending a 13,500 unit, need to consider he is in Texas in the summertime. Ours are both 15,000 and we needed it last summer camping in 113 degree heat, and we are in Kansas. At least the same heat and humidity in Texas if not worse.

A/Cs work better when there is humidity. Arid places make cooling tougher. They cool the air by removing moisture.

I don't think you add on will be tied into the coach vent system and will be direct flow, I know on ours, you can hang beef in the bedroom, if you run it on high cold.
