Hot water smells

Our hot water smells strongly of rotten eggs. How do I get rid of this?

Is it just the hot water? The smell usually comes from organic or sulphur. We would get it in our house. Usually in hot water it is hot enough to burn off. You need to get some bleach and water mixture in the tank. May be your anode plug as well. Can get growth in tank. May want to sanitize your system. Both cold and hot with a bleach mixture. You could put bleach and water in fresh tank then pump it through with water pump. Make sure to flush system with fresh water.

Mostly in hot water. Has new anode plug. This started after I bleached the system.

Whenever we have experienced this the next step was always to sanitize the water system including the hot tank overnight.
.

Not sure what to recommend now except maybe another treatment???

Make sure you empty your hot water tank before you add bleach to the system and that it is refilled before leaving it sit for 4 hours or maybe even overnight. Check your manual for instructions.

Do you experience the smell at both the bathroom and kitchen sinks? If the small is only noticeable in the bathroom, and you are plumbed for a washer/dryer, then it is much more likely you have "stale" water in the lines. Sanitizing the water system does not resolve this. You have to flush the washer lines by opening them and running water through them.

Do a "Search" for something like "bathroom sink smell" to find previous discussions on this issue. Here is just one posting on the subject. Clicky

Recently, I had this problem. I sanitized the water system and flushed the hot water tank. Part of sanitizing the water system with dichlor included flushing the washer lines which contained stale, stinky water, as mentioned. Afterwards, no more smell.

we get this when we camp at a certain campground that has high sulpher content in the park water. If i top off or fill from the campground this happens, took us a while to figure it out, we now bring water from home or if we get stuck using it, i have to drain the tanks and the HW heater and it goes away
