2014 High Country Weight

I recently attended a show in Hershey Pennsylvania and picked up two brocheres. One specified a 2014 High Country 318RE at 9130 lbs dry weight and the other at 9945 lbs. What is the correct dry weight?

Keystone's website shows a shipping weight of 9805# with a carrying capacity of 2695#. Thought I'd help you out, but got another number to throw into the mix. We get a few more folks to weigh in with their #'s and we could hold an auction

The brochure numbers state the weight for a particularly equipped model. If each model has different sized refrigerators, a generator, a second A/C, these would all have different dry weights (aka shipping weight from the factory). These are only guidelines and estimates which are why they are not very dependable. It's the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating which is important and hopefully it is the same for the same model. These are rarely off. Whatever the Gross Vehicle Weight rating minus the dry (shipping weight) yields the Cargo weight. So in DQDick's post, the shipping weight of 9805 plus the corresponding 2695 carrying capacity means a Gross weight rating of 12500. For the two weights in the OP's post, this means the carrying capacities would be 3370 and 2555 lbs respectively. Maybe the 9130 refers to a minimally equipped model and the 9945 numbers means it has much more options and accessories. Another reason for the difference could be changes in the standards and options over the course of developing sales brochures and as models and equipment changes, the brochures might be off from each printing. Again, hopefully the only thing that does not change is the GVWR since it is rare that the frame and suspension change.

When I bought my rig the RVIA sticker was greater than what was stated in the brocure for shipping weight. I do know we had the fireplace option and the king size bed and thought that was why. We had the single door fridge, no generator and only one A/C as well and only 6000 lb axles. Any of these can change the dry weights if the larger fridge, a generator, a second A/C or higher rated axles were included.

When you are looking at new High Country coaches, there is a yellow tag on the door jam or screen door that gives the specific dry weight (empty weight) of the coach. It's placed there at the assembly line. The GVWR on the trailer is all the trailer suspension is designed to carry. The difference is your allowable load.

The only weight that matters is GVWR.

I want to thank each of you for clearing up my head on this weight issue. Your answers were all consistant and make a lot of sense. I am now more knowledgeable than before your help.
Thanks again.
