water Pump problem

I am having trouble with my water pump. It pumps water just fine but when all faucets are turned off and it builds pressure it does not shut off as it should. i have to turn off the switch. i think tomorrow I will build a device with a gauge on it to see just what pressure it attains. I was just thinking maybe someone has had a similar occurrance.
thanks.

John

Do you have your tank fill valve open? Occasionally, while filling the water tank, and we forget to turn off the pump, the pump will start, and it won't stop until we turn the pump off or stop the tank fill process.

The high pressure control (Off position) might be set too high. you will need an Allen wrench.

The first thing I always check with these RV or marine water pumps is for small leaks. When the pump keeps running longer than it should, or comes on once and awhile to build pressure back up when no water is being used, then there is probably a fitting that needs to be tightened.

I think Rohrman nailed it. I've done the same thing.

It is not the fill valve. I do not see any leaks anywhere. I'm going from the park to town to get a gauge soon. Then I can see what psi that I have.

From your photo, your rig is at least a 2012 or older. We had to replace our pump already due to it not pumping at all, even when the motor was still running. It is possible there is an internal problem with the valves in the pump mechanism. I just decided to replace our pump instead of trying to rebuild. Was able to get a quieter pump when I replaced it.

Likely a small leak somewhere or valve passing. Check your by pass's as well... Don't throw out the old pumps as they are usually quite easy to fix. a little debris on the diaphragm can cause the pumping problem... fixed many over the years and sometimes when they don't run a simple cleaning and filing of the brush's and they are good to go
