2015 Montana Backup Cameras

Would like to talk to anyone who has a 2015 Montana with the factory installed backup camera.

According to the manufacturer they are not happy how Keystone (and others) installed their product. I contacted them about signal loss and they asked me if the camera was always on, mine is, and I told that to them. The camera was not designed to always be on.

Can anyone confirm this with their 2015 model?

My concern is that it is just one more thing that will eat the battery with dry camping and I don't know how if at all possible to shut it off??

Any comments?

I am assuming mine is alwsys on. I only pair the internsl display when needed. Perhaps the camera times out and turns off when the inside display is not paired? No idea how to turn it off.

Our '15 3611RL camera is always on. It's a low priority for me right now but soon I'll find the wire and add a switch.

The camera on our 2015 3160RL is always on as well. A switch for it, or moving its power wire to to backup or running lights is on the bottom of the to do list (but it is there).

My 2016 3160RL had a camera that only received power while plugged into the truck and the transmission in reverse. Of course the camera has never been able to pair with the monitor but we should be getting a new setup as it is in the shop right now. Second one in a row that won't pair up.
By the way I did not see a microphone on the system. I was told by one of the technicians that the old brand Keystone used had the built in microphone.
Also I am having them hook my up to the marker light switch circuit. At night I can just shut off the monitor if I want to.

My 2015 Legacy 3611RL stays on all the time. I can see where I have been and what is behind me while travelling.

We have the system from RV cams that we installed ourselves. It is on all the time when on the road but when stopped it is off. Why would it be on when you are not moving or unhooked???

Our 2015 3711FL is/was on all the time. Camera fried. Furrion confirmed. Just spoke to Keystone this AM. Did not want to talk about it before a dealer confirmed it was not a one off issue. I think from above we have confirmation. The camera installed is a backup and not an observation camera. Not designed for long term on time.

Rich, Furrion states that Keystone is wiring the camera wrong. They are not designed to be on all the time.

That's easy! Backup cam is $100 less list than the Furrion observation cam.

Our 2015 3790rd camera is on all the time. It was a back up camera and when we pulled the Monty out of storage, this spring, the camera wouldn't work at all. Our dealer replaced it under warranty with an observation camera. All is well now except that it's on all the time even when boondocking.

Our camera is on all the time. Even when plugged into shore power. We have had 2 cameras quit working so far. Furrion has stated these cameras are not to be powered all the time.

I was thinking about just getting up on the ladder and remove the 4 small screws and unplug the camera for winter storage. Or I may just remove the battery. Why didn't they simply wire the BU camera to the running lights?

Same issue. Mine burnt out. Keystone replaced it at the factory rally, but it will burn out again. When I mentioned to them they are wiring them wrong, they just looked at me like it was the first time they had ever heard this.

I have a 2011 and the Camera was wired to be on 24/7. It was wired direct to the coach battery. After the camera burned out and I received the next camera, I rewired to my truck lights. This ensures it is only on when truck is connected and lights are on. Haven't had any issues with cameras burning up since I rewired it.

It should have been wired the right way from the start, not my job to rewire the trailer under warranty, you should know that.

update! second one burned out as well. I tried to make it last longer by using the battery cut off when it was in storage, but it got turned back on and the camera died. Called Furrion and they were going to send me another for free as the second one was only 6 months old. I asked about the Observation model good for 100ft. and designed for continual use. The agreed to send that model instead for a 200.00 dollar upgrade fee. I paid it and have been very happy with the new model camera. no more cutting in and out and Even after I disconnect and park my truck in the driveway away from the trailer I can still see the camera picture behind the trailer.

I wired my Furrion Backup camera to the running lights. It is good for a backup camera and a rear view camera while in motion. It has a better field of vision than my old backup camera with two side cameras. If I had it to do all over again I would get an RV GPS that I could put backup cameras on.
