Thousand Trails - Wauchula, FL
Never been in a campground lottery before!
Upon check in you are told to find a spot in the 30 amp area with no sewer and then report back to the office with your site number. You are then told that each morning at 11am the available 50 amp sites with sewer are posted on the camp bulletin board. You have one hour to check out which sites would be suitable for you then return to the office for the lottery. At noon camper names are called in the order in which they checked in. When called the camper may choose from the available sites remaining to move up to 50 amps and sewer. If you fail to select a site within the first four lotteries after you check in, your name is removed and you are no longer eligible to move up to a better site. The camp map shows that all of the sites without sewer are prone to flooding.

According to Nick, Gypsy Journal, if you read his daily blog, this is not all that unusual with Thousand Trails???
Only saying, that is what my leaky memory cells tell me about what I have read on his blog.
You can find his blog here and check it out for yourself:

I am a reader of the blog, I have no interest financial, or otherwise, in Nick and/or his blog or his business. (That is the disclaimer.LOL)
Lottery at noon. Well, at least I might be up by then.

Sounds like something an activity director dreamed up to fill the gap between the morning shuffle board contest and when pickle ball starts after lunch

We used to be members of 1000 Trails, but let it expire.

Not that I am antisocial but it sounds like a place I would not go to as I like my space and am going to do this to get away from the "Rat Race". I am not one that needs to say I stay at a specific place for shall we say "Stripes on my sleeve"! If that's for you great but give me the wide open spaces! Jus sayin!

We joined Thousand Trails about six months ago. We have certainly saved money using it. We have stayed in several places. This is the first we've encountered with a lottery. I guess the way we look at it is that we will use Thousand Trails when convenient, but we are not limiting our travel experience to only Thousand Trails sites.

We have been TT members for over 8 years. The Wauchula TT is the only one I have been to that uses this awful practice. I'm not saying there isn't another one out there, we just haven't run across it.
The park states that the majority of the land is low and prone to flooding so they can not put sewer hookups back there. That leaves them no alternative but to use this system. I don't care to lose at least a day and a half so we just avoid that park. Hugs, Di
