New 3400RL needed one more modification
Check out all that wasted space.
Ozz, what do you think?
Ozzie, bring your tools to Branson. I may need your help.

Dennis, I agree, lots of space, I went about the task from the other side, the shelving I put in extends across to the wall. My built-in Graingers heater extends into the compartment a little.
I like your idea, we can always use more storage.

Dennis, I'm going to need to actually see what you're doing, sometime. On the far side of the area you opened up ours has a shelf compartment that sits above the water heater with double doors to access it. When I replaced the checkvalve on the water heater I had to remove the floor of that compartment to more easily get at the water heater. I don't recall there being much space remaining so I obviously am missing something. Maybe I'll get a chance to see yours this summer when we're back in Independence, if you are still at home.

Steve, from the back wall of the compartment you are talking about to the wall I have cut out is about 10 inches. Also by re-routing the water lines you pick up a lot of space on the floor.

Thanks, Dennis. When working in that area it never occured to me that it could be converted into more storage. Good idea. Thanks.

Wayne it is in a 3400RL, the water heater compartment. There is a shelf and door on the other side as per my link.

I thought it was the water heater as well, till I saw the second pic.
Above my water heater is a good sized space I've been eying for a while too. I was thinking a bookrack, but on our rig, it would be facing forward. Wrong direction for braking on the road, so I'd have to dig in a little deeper to make that one work.

I've got some more ambition to muster, but I always thought that space over the HW tank would be a good spot for the dishwasher. I would be able to save the under sink space, but would probably loose the majority of the cabinet on the fireplace side.

Brad, if I was doing it again I would put it there. However it would be a little more work. You can now get the dishwasher in a black color.

I saw the black one at CW Dennis - but I think its a different brand.
It would take moving the vent pipe and putting a new angle on it - thats more or less what stopped me - that and my DW said less time working on it and more time usin it or it goes

Brad your wife has the right idea. As soon as I finish this mod we are headed to the Branson rally then the Northeast rally then on South to the Gulf coast. Going to put an additional 8K miles on those "GOOD MISSION TIRES".

Dennis, good luck with those tires and have fun on your trip. As long as it keeps snowing here in CO, the only "mission" my Mission tires have is to keep the frame up off the ground.
