2007 Interior stain color

Are you thinking about making a cabinet upgrade in your 2007/08 Monty? If so here is some information which could save you some major cash. I was going to purchase an entire piece of paneling from the dealer until they told me they wanted over $100.00 plus shipping for something which cost him $19.95 plus shipping.

Today I searched every home improvement store in Oklahoma City and purchased 6 different cans of stain. The dealer had told me our cabinets were finished in "Honey Oak" at the factory but when I looked at that color at home Depot it was a much deeper color.

The winner of the color match to my 2007 Montana 3000RK...
"Olympic" Premium Interior Wood Stain.
Color: "Natural"
This finish is oil based and will not over color no matter how many swipes you make with your stain brush. You will however have to put a clear coat on the panel after the stain dries.

I purchased a sheet of natural oak paneling(unfinished). I purchased a small piece of paneling which measured 4' tall, 2' wide and 1/4" thick. This piece was slightly thicker than the cabinet backign Montana uses. Their paneling I think is closer to 1/8" thick.

When purchasing a piece of paneling be sure to check the wood type. The sticker may say one thing and the wood may be another thing. I found this out quickly. Take your choice over to the finish boards isle and match your panel against the real wood. I purchsed two pieces of oak from the same bin and one turned out to be birch(sp) instead of oak and the other had a small tint of red to it but not enough to keep me from using it. The secret is to be very picky whne choosing your piece of material at the lumber store. Dig through those bins until you are absolutely satisfied. Don't be affraid to dig to the back of the bin.

I took my selected panel home with all of my types stain and was amazed to see the natural stain was a perfect match. Now if the weather will cooperate I will be finishing my microwave nook next weekend. Pictures will be posted after I finish.

I hope this helps someone who is trying to make some improvements in the future.

Thanks for the info Phil. Always glad to read about others doing improvements to their rigs. If you have other projects and need thinner pieces of plywood, door skin plywood is 1/8" thick. It is usually used to reface doors and you could probably find it at a lumber yard. Matching stain is always difficult. Unless you have the brand name, a paint or stain color name isn't much help.
Post pictures when you are finished, would like to see what you have done.

Thanks for the info. I found that same stain at Lowes when I added some shelving to the pantry only in a latex.
