All,
Check out this link ( http://www.thedieselstop.com/content...S%20Failure%21). It's an article from the dielselstop.com that talks about the signs of a bad CPS and also a picture of where it is located.

All,
There is different prices for different years. My '95 is still listing at 100 plus, 97 and newer are 20 to 30 dollar range.
I'm in a testing mode as I needed a new one and the shop could not explain or see any difference bewteen the 2 parts other than the part numbers.
I bought and installed the newer (cheaper) 1997 part on the 95 truck (135000 miles), so far no problems and it runs fine. I took it to the shop that does all my diesel work and they were impressed with this "find". There only comment was that many of the parts are eventually superceded by a newer part number even on older trucks. Maybe this one just was never tested yet?
Anyways it works fine for me.
Hope this helps others,
Chuck

What I understand is that most of the CPS failures happen between 60-70K miles. Some I have talked to have been over 100K before replacing. My question is..... has anyone had a failure more than one time?

Charlie I had to replace 3....the truck has 67,700 miles on it now. The last one was one I installed, from NAPA. It was a Ford part even though it came from NAPA.

This sensor can fail all at once, or a little at a time. Mine gratefully gave me a few warnings. It left a DTC of PO340, or PO344, I can't remember which, as I had one of these codes, and a friend of mine had the other, but both were caused by the cam position sensor. Very easy to replace with a 10mm wrench. My 2000 F350 had 81K on it. After reading some of the posts, I guess I'd better get a spare. Got mine on ebay for $62 shipped to the house. My buddy paid the dealer $270.

Mine failed a little at a time, not suddenly. We would be driving and the engine would "hic cup". It never stopped. Changed fuel filter but it kept missing a beat every few days. Bought new CPS and 30 minutes later it runs great. Has not missed in 2,000 miles. Mine went out at 102,000.
