Road conditions I-81 and I-95

Heading to Myrtle Beach from upstate NY. Wondering on the road conditions of I-81 in PA and I-95 in VA and NC with the extreme snow and ice this winter. Thanks, Mike

Old Salty, even though that is the route we will take home, I don't know the road conditions at this time. I do have a website that may help. It gives a weather forecast and interstate conditions according to the parameter you put in. http://www.weather.com/activities/dr...m=secondarynav (Sorry couldn't figure out how to make it linkable).

Old Salt,
Sorry I can not comment on road conditions but will offer this detour from Harrisburg to Fredericksburg, VA.
Interstate route is 173 miles

This detour route is 165 miles
81 south to 581 in Harrisburg.
581 to 15 south in Camp Hill
15 south through Fredrick, MD to Warrenton VA
17 south to Fredericksburg, VA
95 south.
This bypasses Baltimore and Washington DC.

This detour route is 183 miles
Other options is to stay on 81 south to Winchester, VA
Nice campground Candy Hill for an over night stop.
Pick up 17 there and take it to Fredericksburg. Less two lane traffic.

I hope this helps. Safe travels.

Just came down that way yesterday. I-81 is not bad at all and I-95 is fine. Watch the weather for Monday thru Wednesday of next week. Could be challenging if towing the Montana.

Thanks for the replies. Not leaving until early April - that means two more weeks of snow and ice

I agree with John, I81 to Winchester, I66 to Rt 17 South to Fredericksburg then I 95 south. I travel this route many times through out the year and just traveled it last week(without the camper) but all the roads were in good shape. I95 at Fredericksburg is always busy but it thins out a few miles south to a tolerable level. I would use i295 bypass around Richmond, because they are in the middle of bridge work and you never know what the traffic flow will be. I95 south of Richmond and the rest of the way is a fairly calm drive. I also agree with Candy Hill Campground is a great place to stop. Safe travels
