Campground US 191 Wyoming
Heading from central Illinois to Seattle WA during the middle part of May. Starting to plan the central route out there. Trying to locate a good campground a little north of Rock Springs WY on US 191. Planning on staying a couple days and taking day trip to Jackson Hole. Any campground recommendations?

Not a whole lot to pick from there except for the KOA, which isn't on 191. If you're going up to Jackson anyway, the run up through Casper to Teton Park isn't a bad run. We did that last year, some grades, but nothing you can't handle with your rig. If the roads are decent (weather), you could go from there through Idaho Falls to continue your journey, but that would take you across Teton Pass, a little over 8400 ft. We were going east, and dropped down to Montpelier, ID from Pocatello, ID and then back north to avoid the pass from Idaho Falls. You are still traveling when you can get some weather in that area.

Joe, If you run to Pinedale, there is a CG there. Nothing fancy. You are still 70 miles from Jackson. But if you go thru Pinedale like you are going to Jackson @ Daniel Hwy 189 so. there is a CG. I would continue on about 15 miles and go to The Rim CG. They just opened it up and we are going to use it this fall hunting. It is about 8 miles from Bondurant. Elevation is about 8000' and its pretty nice around there. Wish I could meet you guys there but we will be in Island Park Id. Go to my profile and you will see where we are at. Would love if you all could come there for a night or two. They have great prices that time of year. Its 20 mile from West Yellowstone. Shoot me an email if you need. JP
There's also a CG in Boulder. Nothing more than an open lot. I think the airport is across the road from it. The problem is that area boomed, and they just set up where they could for the gas and oil field workers. You may get a site and you may not. I would call The Rim and see if they are all booked up.

My Always Camp app on my IPhone list 12 camps in Pinedale they are all forest and public camps. The one private one in Pinedale is not listed. I don't if it not listed or just not open now but I have stayed in it.

Why not just stay in Jackson area? Then go west to I-15 north and catch I-90 to Seattle. You could go a little more north and stay at Teton Nat. Park CG. Colter Bay RV resort has full hookups if you want them. (Book early tho)
[edit] Actually Teton's aren't that much to see. And if you are there, it is only another hour to Yellowstone which has a LOT to see - unlike anything else in the world.

These early stages of planning this trip.....changed our mind already. Now we are thinking we will go out to Seattle the southern route because it will be a lot warmer in May. Then after cruise we will wonder back the northern route and take our time. Want to spend some time around Yellowstone and sure don't want to have any weather related issues prior to catching cruise ship out of Seattle. At least this way we won't be on a schedule when we hit Yellowstone.

Thanks JP, we will probably get serious about our return trip planning in the next few weeks and I will be picking your brain along with some other folks.
