Battery disconect ?

On our new 324 RLQ mountaineer I noticed yeaterday that with the power unpluged and the battery disconect turned off that the remote would still operate the slides. Does the disconect not shut the whole trailer down?

the battery disconnect when off is to kill all power from the battery so the battery does not get drained down .but if you have the trailer pluged into power then the power comes from the electrical cord.if that is unpluged and the battery is disconnected and no generator pluged in then there should be no power from any source.evrything should be dead

I'd have to check this to be sure, but I believe the slides and jacks still have power when the disconnect is on. Disconnect is to keep battery from being run down if something 12 volt inside the trailer is left on.

On some models the slides and jacks are wired directly to the battery bypassing the disconnect switch. On some models, just the front jacks are wired in this manner. I don't believe there are any models where the factory battery disconnect completely isolates the battery.

Being that the slide motor and the front jack motor is close to the battery supply with heavy gage wire, it would cost too much to run a heavy cable to the disconnect and back. To be effective the disconnect would have to be at or near the batteries and kill all power similar to applications like John Deere and Caterpillar industrial equipment.

If you wanted to have a complete battery disconect you could add a mariene boat disconect switch to your batteries but this would involve you cutting the possitive lead of the battery where they are being stored. a lot of us have done this with the earlier models.

You could also do it with a n/o relay at the battery, but again it's extra cost.

Yep, Landing gear and remote control module have there own Circuit breakers, and get power before the disconnect. The Disconnect just kills power to the DC Bus (where the AC Breakers and DC Fuses are).
